Would you consider suggesting people who message you to use the forum? Possibly an autosend message.

I do this anyway if I think its something they'd enjoy, and a few have participated in a thread or two, but most are more comfortable just mailing.

I do the same. I was wondering if core forum users could have some autonotification to whoever messages them, with a suggestion to join in.

ATM we generally get a self-selecting group of people who somehow end up here but a larger number would be good

I have often responded that I prefer to chat in the forums rather than on PM as a way of getting to know people as I like to see how people respond with others not just how they interact to me.

Whenever I have sent messages to people I always mention the forums to them and suggest they try it out

No. Well not an auto send message anyway. After chatting for a while I might if the topic ever comes up and it's appropriate.

i prefer to do forum chatting via the forum but i do chat to a few if its personal - both send and receive

No I wouldn't suggest it. The two are separate for me. If they drift in then fine but I don't mention it. I like my privacy and I sometimes feel that it can be compromised when you're on the forums.

No way. If I'm messaging someone I'm looking to meet them. Why on earth would I want them on the forum? ??

in fact one woman I met said she stumbled upon the forums once by accident, had posted one message and then got a life ban

slaps myself across the face and telly myself to bloody stop scan reading openinf threads - no i tend to mostly keep meets and forum separate but saying that have met a lot of people from the forum so i might be talking twaddle as per

No, because i go in the forum. And i like to keep the two seperate.

This is interesting because I started out with meeting outside of the forum. Now have met a few people from the forums including forumites.

There are really noticeable differences to both groups (on and off forums) I enjoy both.

Mixture of public forum and private messaging is fun.

I certainly suggest to people asking for profile/how to get a meet advice on the forums to use them more as a way of getting to know people.

Don't tend to message a great deal with people from outside the forums though but if I did and it cropped up in conversation I'd not hesitate to recommend them.
