this years TDF should be interesting....

I think this is the year Quintana finally wins the whole show.... especially after having the giro snatched away from him...

I may have got the six months confused with something else as I know there are races all the time ... As one who did the Dartmoor classic on Sunday and have got 8 events coming up over the next 3 months..

I think it was talking about the elite athletes... And the marginal gains program run by British Cycling & Sky and applying to both men an women in the lead up to Olympic, Commonwealth games, World Championships... I have read it somewhere recently.... Or was it on April 1st....

I haven't seen it yet but Sagan wasted no time in getting to Cav's team bus and apologising.

Suspect he'll jut get relegated to last place on the stage. Very rare for riders to be thrown off the race

Don't think the elbow was deliberately done to knock Cav off and in slow month it looked like Cav was already going to hit the barrier, just a racing incident I think.

Having now seen the footage. The elbow doesn't look great and I suspect sealed Peters fate. It may be a touch harsh, I reckon the crash was happening regardless of the elbow. Plus, if the tour jury punishes Peter, then why not punish the other chap (don't recall the name) who swung violently across another rider and almost causing a pileup?

Overall, my main hope is that the fears for Cav's continuing participation aren't realised. On the highlight show, he was intimating that his shoulder may have taken a hit that will finish his Tour.

As I think Sagan is an awesome rider I don't think he was intending to hurt can but at those speeds the outcome wasn't going to be good.

Sadly looks like two big names have existed the tour today.

Big fan of Sagan but today was just reckless,he was having Demares wheel whatever,it did start earlier with a big slide by greipel but think the elbow, even tho Cav was on way down sealed it,feel sorry for degenkolb, ran over Cav n took a heavy faceplant n swift who came down too, should be good at finish on final climb tomorrow!

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

The while sprint is chaotic from the point Greipel also loses it (which starts the chain reaction) if not earlier, Demare is all over the place, Cav is going for a tiny gap and trying to get on Delmare's wheel which Sagan also wants. The elbow is to balance himself, Cav is already on his way down...

As a massive Cav fan who has never liked Sagan I still think that the initial punishment was harsh but a DQ is completely over the top and I;d be surprised if it's not overturned before tomorrow's stage.

i don't think its a froome type climb as the 1/2 k is steep a punchy climb as i think there has been, where as froome is almost better on the long gradual climbs as he can keep a steady pace......

quintana is not a bad shout, actually the ironic thing is it may have suited valverde more than quintana today.....

Tomorrow's break will stay away. And possibly it wwll be like when Vockler and Chiapucci led the race, the sort of break that gets a big time gap that one of the riders defends well in to the 3rd week.

SKY won't chase because it;s a sprinters stage. Dimension Data and Bora obviously won't chase. Quickstep probably won;t chase because they have to consider Martin in the GC as well as Kittel for the green, Lotto won't chase because Greipel isn't close Green. FDJ won;t chase as a breakaway mopping up the points is far more like to keep Demare in green than his sprinting ability.

At least that's what I would love to see happen. SKY will ride tempo, yea,s will work in the ginal kilometres, but who will do the work to get the time down?

Yeah expelling Sagan to tell the sprinters to stop being dicks really didn't fet the message across did it? Although as Demare is a menace and also seemingly beyond reproach that is probably where the problem lies!

As for Phillips, this is brilliant news. She's an excellent writer and her articles offer an insight amd knowledge of the sport few can match so hearing her commentate should be interesting.

Mental stage, porte's crash was horrible and I've no idea why ITV4 felt the need to reply it quite so many times. He was very, very lucky ad if he'd flipped the other way it was a long and steep drop.

Totally at a loss as to why people worked with froome in the final kilometres when he was isolated, particularly Astana. Racing for the podium rather than the win

After the rest day it was a fairly dull stage.

Tbh things haven't really started to get really exciting yet.

Quintana hasn't really shown anything to indicate that he had the ability.

But froomes lead is a lot smaller than in previous years.

With the big mountain stages yet to come, it will be interesting to see how much froome will miss G.

I don't think Chris has even stretched himself yet.

Sky still have the strongest outfit there I reckon. Astana don't seem to work well as a team which will leave Aru isolated. I fear Quintana has had his shot, and won't recover the time he needs to unless the big guns fail spectacularly. The race comes to life again when they hit the Pyrenees on Thursday.

Yes felt desperately sorry for the Polish rider at the end there.

I was willing my legs to help his hoping that he could manage to hang on.

Gutted for him.

Well that was a long hard slog to the line and Froome has given the yellow to Aru to keep it warm for him

Great stage, well done to the tour organisers that designed that finish.

Bring on tomorrow. Chris back in yellow before the weekend.

Same here, I thought Sky had it sewn up with the way they'd set up Chris for the finish. A rare show of weakness from the big fella.

Another fantastic day today's Tour, what a scary and daring finish, these guys have some balls going flat out to the finish.

Tomorrow is last stage of the mountain stages, Can see Bardot going for the win.

It's a shame Kittel left though but what a great fight for the finish like amongst the GC

You've got to think that Chris should have this in the bag now. Stays upright tomorrow and within sight of his rivals, he's by far the better time trialler of the remaining GC contenders so I can only see extension of his advantage.

Team Sky have had a hugely impressive squad that have pummelled the opposition into exhaustion.

For sure sky are strong but ag2r rode well to put them under pressure the other day but bardet never really profited from it,quick step haven't been much help to Dan Martin n Astana haven't done much for Aru,all easier said tho when sky's tempo means anyone trying to attack is straight in the red, quintana been big disappointment, least 'bertie had a go today, great ride by Roglic

Blimey I am out of breath just watching that, Barguil sure can climb a mountain when he needs to and Froomy just can't be shaken out of that yellow jersey

I suspect he was a mountain goat in a former life. I feel he's only got to stay upright tomorrow, then trounce his rivals in the TT on Saturday. 3 in a row? Yes please.

Ag2r ride on the front again, but bardet didn't really profit if as he says 2nd place is no interest, usual storming ride into the ground by kwiatkowski!

It been a great Tour despite many top riders retired, I think Froome have it in the bag now as all the hard work is done now. A great champion.

These cyclists make the footballers looked daft when they go rolling over the floor from a light kick from others when the cyclists just get back on their bike after a crash and get on with it, kudos to all cyclists finish the Tour.

It's been really close and tough.

And theoretically froome could still lose it.

All he would need is a mechanical or an off in the TT.

But he is a very methodical rider and won't take chances unless he has a shocker and needs to make up time.

It's been good to see him pushed harder this year.

Not been massively impressed with this year's route.

Last 7day's have been ok.

I can't believe the crowd booed Froomy that's just bad show because at the end of the day he has won it on his ability and with superb team around him, chapeau Mr Froome

I think due to his quiet demeanour he doesn't get the publicity or recognition he deserves.

What froome and team sky have achieved has been amazing.

Going from pretty much zero British success baring the odd stage win, to five out of the last six is staggering.

The French will boo anyone who isn't French and it's mostly jealousy.

Its a shame that the British press and public in general don't embrace him as they should.

You only need to look at the way the race is these day's to work out that it's won cleanly, they are all on an even playing field in terms of physical ability. It mostly comes down to mental strength and self belief.

It's definitely been alot closer than in recent years and right upto the TT could have gone to 2nd or possibly 3Rd place.

Possibly one more year I think.

Allez Allez Allez
