I'm currently looking at my cat Lucy that doesn't know that at 3pm she has an appointment with the Vet to go on her final sleep

I've had her for 16 years since she was a rescue cat in Belgium but just lately her health has deteriorated due to a cancerous tumour in her mouth. From eating over 3 pouches a day she can now only manage about a spoonful at each feed with a dramatic weight loss and fur loss.

I know it's the best decision to end her suffering but it's also the worst decision I've ever had to make.

It's got very dusty in here

Sorry Lucy xx

I know how you feel, had to do the same with both of our cats. Even though it's never nice and it's never easy, just thinking about the life you've given them, and the pain you're stopping them from suffering helps me to deal with it better.

Sorry that you're going through this

I've had to do the same countless times. It's really the very last act of love you can do for an animal though it's not easy, it *is* definitely the right thing to do as it's about them, not you. I don't mean that to sound harsh, sorry, re-reading that it may have come across wrongly.

Sounds like you have given her such a loving home which she's very grateful for.

If she could say anything to you, I bet my bottom dollar it would be "thank you"

You gave her a 2nd chance at life and because of that shes lived to a grand old age. Remember that. I had to say goodbye to my first dog a couple of years ago, broke my heart but it had to be done for his sake. Me and many others on here will be feeling your pain.

Aww hugs OP. As hard as it is for you it is the ultimate act of love and kindness we can do for our pets when they are suffering.

A few years ago we had to do the same for our elderly cat Maxie. She was nearly 21 and had a tumour in her mouth too.

Thinking of you xxx

Thankyou for all the kind words and thoughts. I never imagined it would be this upsetting... my last cat was a Tom who passed away aged 4 from natural causes and we didn't have to make the big decision as he went in his sleep.

Now sitting quietly at home with a whiskey and contemplating vacuuming all her clumps of fur she shed yesterday and today.

I'm just glad I took loads of photos of her earlier this year when she was fully fit.

So so sorry to hear this OP.

I've lost many fur babies and it's hard. She knows you loved her and she is now at Rainbow Bridge with no more suffering.

At least at my next Coffee Morning party there will be no glares from her or sulking off in a huff because some guests are sitting on all the seats and cushions on HER sofa

It's an awful decision to have to make even if you know it is the correct one.

Heart goes out to you. I still remember the same journey with one of ours a few years ago. Try to think of all the years you've had together.
