Apparently, we'll momentarily see the new Doctor this weekend. Really hoping it isn't Kris Marshall. No offence to the guy, but on the biscuit scale, Capaldi is a chocolate hobnob and Marshall is an abandoned rich tea.

From the episodes I have seen it has been very good and Bill has been excellent.

I will redouble my efforts to watch it before it ends.

Kris Marshall would be a good fit but I'd love Paul Bettany to play the Doctor, I always feel like Kris is the small screen version of Paul.

Stopped watching after Tennant, couldn't get on with Smith at all, need to sit down and binge watch Capaldi to see if I can get my love back.

Whilst I think bill has been brill,I have actually been very disappointed with the season - first few episodes very good, then it's kinda tapered of a lot

Did you not like Matt Smith? I hated Peter capaldi at first but the writing seemed to change to suit him and it improved massively.

Whoevers next, I'm preparing to hate them for the first few episodes and then relent, it's usually the way lol

I wouldn't want to see a woman get the role just so a woman got the role, I just think Hayley Atwell would do a good job with it.

Of course, if we're going to be so radical as to allow an American to play the Doctor, I'd really like to see Amy Acker take it on.

as a converted whovian due to watching with my daughter,

I don't watch it anymore.

Stephen Moffat has completely ruined the show.

Really, really tried to give Peter Capaldi's Doctor a chance, but it just wasn't happening for me due to the appalling stories he was given.

There were two stories I actually enjoyed though. The Mummy on the Train episode from Capaldi's first season, and the After the flood / before the flood double bill with the ghosts.

Unfortunately, much as I was trying to endure it, the episode with him running around the castle / tower was just so bad that I couldn't watch any longer.

Such a shame, as since being resurrected in 2005 with Chris Ecclestone, Who had become a success again.

I have all David Tennant DVD box sets and all of Matt Smith on Blu-Ray

I'm surprised Idris Elba hasn't had a mention this time round.

The Master/Missy gender switch has worked really well as both John Simms is incredibly unhinged where as Michelle Gomez as Missy is the kinda gal that you would hope to meet in Chameleons (as long as she promised not to disembowel you). She is a fruit loops Mary Poppins.

Anyways... Idris would get ladies (and gents) of a certain age all hot and flustered.

I was disappointed they had Michelle Gomez pretending to be the Doc, because presumably now she won't be, when what she did was brilliant and I think put a toe in the arse of the whiny geeks who say the Doc can't be a woman.

Absolutely no reason why The Doctor can't look like Missy. As The Curator says sometimes you can re-visit an old favorite. The Current face is based on a Roman Soldier so he Remembers.

I'm visualising a Missy faced Doctor flirting with River Song.

Gotta admit, it's a tough sell for a relatively well known actor to make that commitment and spend 8 months of the year in Cardiff, which is why part of me thinks they'll go with a relative unknown like David Tennant and Matt Smith were when they took over.

have to admit that was a cracking ending....

i think the assistants in a way are as important as the doctors, and these assistants worked much better with this doctor than jenna coleman did....

so in a way they basically wiped the slate clean so they can bring in everyone anew...

and for proper who nerds the ending was a corker!!!!

Looks like it's all change after the Christmas Special.

New Doctor and Stephen Moffatt is no longer writing the show.

I personally don't like Moffatt as a writer and it was nice to see this series was mostly written by other people with, in my opinion, the poorest episodes being written by Moffatt.

It'll be nice to see Moffatt release his deathgrip on the series and how it can move on.

I think kris marshall will do a great job.. also david morrisey. It wouldnt be the first time he has regenerated into someone he has seen before.

If it's a woman i would prefer them to be a strong female timelord in their own right like Romana or The Rani.

I'm hoping Phoebe Waller-Bridge gets it, she's a great actress who's already being Hollywood cast and I think she has the integrity to do it only if the script was good enough.

I really don't get the clamour for the next Doctor to be female. The Doctor has always been identified as a male, and whilst of course there is now a (recent) precedent with the Master / Missy it does smack, in some quarters, as being a 'right-on PC' thing rather than anything that is particularly necessary.

Nobody is campaigning for the next person to play 'Miss Marple' to be a fella are they? So why the need to change a traditionally male character to be female!?

I think changing to a woman would be a safer bet for an existing showrunner who had a track record of a successful doctor who run.

My problem with views like yours is this is a fictional character with the functionally given characteristics to change. Secondly, I wonder how much the epithet of Doctor plays into the belief the character must be male?

Yes, I'm PC, feminist, do-gooder so of course I'm talking nonsense.

Tamsin Grieg's casting as a female Malvolio (Malvolia) and making it quite a queer production was sold out. It took nothing from the Shakespeare, which was still fantastic.

There are fewer women in lead roles, full stop. That will never change if we keep to a rigid view that only white men (by and large) can have those roles.

I repeat, it's a fictional character that can change to be anything.

I think it's slowly been deteriorating quality wise for a while. I've no idea who she is but I hope she's good. Tbh I've seen more people complaining about people complaining for making the doctor a woman, than actual people complaining. Apart from the dumb daily mail comments section

The only thing that makes it a farce is the press whirlwind about the Dr being a woman as a strike for diversity. Takes away it being a good plot or great actor/actress giving the best audition.

Almost waters down the decision as it feels like a bbc decision not the creators.

Then again, by what I read in the press I'm surprised the Dr isn't a female, ethnic minority, bisexual, vegan with a disability. Just to give fair representation and not upset anyone. In fact, I hope the Dr isn't a pacifist now or else the daleks and cybermen (persons) will rule forever!

Despite my scepticism as to the need / reasons behind the gender change of a traditionally male character, I think this is a good choice as she's a fine actor and, hopefully, the show will continue to go from strength to strength under the new team.

I haven't always been a huge fan of Steven Moffat's work (although liked most of the recent series until the last few episodes) so under a new show runner in Chris Chibnall and new Doctor in Jodie Whittaker I hope the show returns refreshed and on top form!

I was a big Buffy fan. I have no problem with a female lead in a tv show. But I don't really like that they've turned the doctor into a woman.

After 12 regens and it being a man every time, it's pretty established that Doctor Who is then a man. He's a timeLORD, clue is in the title.

Same way as I'd be unhappy if they rebooted buffy and it's was a man as the title character.

The Doctor has alluded to having a wife on Gallifrey, he has a granddaughter, but now he's a woman.

I'd given up on the show anyway, as much as I like Peter Capaldi, I thought Moffat's writing was terrible. So I was looking forward to Chibnall as I thought Broadchurch was excellent, season 1 especially, two not so much, three was good.

But this hasn't got me pumped!

They might officially be called Baronesses or other such titles yet it's still called the House of Lords.

Plus Buffy didn't habitually change form every 5 or so years. I would have even been unhappy for her to morph into a nearly identical white, blonde woman.

How is this sexist??? This is directly stating that the characters own established canon is at odds with the the new direction being taken by the show runners.

I'm happy to see her take on the doctor personally, but the viewpoint expressed is absolutely fine. I have no issue with seeing a female lead programme, but the established character we have come to love is synonymous with being male, and it feels like it was done purely to rock the boat and shake things up, and given capaldi's runz I wouldn't be shocked if this next season fails to find a real audience and they cancel it. Seems a bit desperate.
