They weren't that common when I was growing up and I didn't get a bank card that would allow me to use an ATM when I first had a bank account. Now I wonder what I would have had to do to get one.

I saw, somewhere, that if you are being mugged at the ATM and forced to enter your pin to withdraw money you should enter your pin backwards. That will trigger the machine to present the money but leave it stuck in the machine and trigger the camera to work.
I don't know if it's true or not though.

"I would seriously doubt that works because banks would make that common knowledge as a security measure, not just random heresay "
That's my assumption too... and there's no way to test it without having to get your card released, if it works.
There are lots of things that people don't know that they should, though. Like dialing "55" if you dial 999 and can't speak because you might put yourself or others in danger.

I heard that on the news piece. Reg Varney was a proper celeb back then.

That's my assumption too... and there's no way to test it without having to get your card released, if it works.
