Sure you weren't on the Lusty? (See what I did there) I've heard morale is at an all time low, loads sticking their notice in, really bad state of affairs. From what I understand it's really changed. (Life in a blue suit jack) spent the best part of my career in Rosyth, Gladyer Inn, DYC and Lorenzo's, wouldn't change it for the world. |

"Think £3bn could have been better used else where. "
A good proportion of the money spent building it has kept British workers in employment providing the skills and materials need to build the craft,,,, This allows those workers to spend their disposable income on services and goods from British companies that employ British workers which in turn helps maintain job security and the economic cycle of our nation ,,,,
Is that such a bad use of public money....? |

And it's one of the few companies that employes people in economically deprived areas and actually exports to the rest of the world. Of course some people would rather give people hand outs than the dignity of work. |

Stupid is my well-off middle classs relatives moaning about benefit cheats, then boasting about how they fiddle their home and holiday insurance every year.
Stupid is believing the myth that the unemployed don't want to work.
Stupid is believing racists didn't vote Remain. Jeremy Clarkson campaigned for it.
I never met a council estate resident who started a war but there were plenty who fought in them. |

Probably, I'm from a council estate, my family still live on a council estate, some of my best friends are what's called "mongs" I'm a bit of a "mong" myself, everybody on my estates knows exactly what a council estate mong is... I'm owning it |

"Bloody hell a lot of judgement going on.
Not everyone who lives or hails from a council estate is a mong/chav/thick."
Exactly this!!! ! I'm university educated. Served in the RAF. I certainly wouldn't describe myself as think, chavvy or a Mong.
Narrow minded bigoted people need to learn not to tar everyone with the same brush
I've met many uneducated and extremely unemployable people who have been brought up on private estates.
Council estate does not equal - uneducated and unemployed. Just as private estate does not equal brain and a job.

HMS somerset is shadowing her for the next wee while and some good pics coming from her. You can bet your bottom dollar we have at least 2 of our subs with her too as there will be American Russian and Chinese subs lurking about too to get her acoustic signature. |

"Think £3bn could have been better used else where. "
Absolutely. Not fully functional for at least 5 years yet. Complete waste of 6bn, given there's two of 'em.
Whoever got interviewed yesterday on it hit the nail on the head - paraphrasing of course - but in short said it was effectively a massive cock display for the Government.

It's not tho is it. We've had a royal Navy for hundreds of years and we need new carriers. Unfortunately the corbynite lefty mob don't seem to realise we need the royal Navy for our own protection and for use of force should it be needed.
If a war came I'm sure you'd be the first one to ask someone to protect you as corbyn will only be able to write a strongly worded email to rebuff the use of force against us. |

Cost issues aside and what we should or should not actually spend the money on, it takes years to design, build and then commission a ship.
Military ships take even longer due to the advanced nature of the systems involved and the fact that they have to be more robust in certain areas compared to your average container ship.
I think HMS Ocean is a good example, she was designed and built using more commercial rather than military design and construction techniques and as a result her service life is expected to be a lot shorter than a standard RN build. |

Nice to see we have an expert in military tactics on fab
You don't seem to understand that our defence spending is the minimum under our NATO commitments anyway so no the money can't just be spent on policing. |

Thought that's what you might say.
We're an island nation, heavily dependent on maritime trade. A strong Navy and the ability to project power is important due to that.
I'm not saying this ship is necessarily the best way to do that, but there's not much point having effective internal security without comparable external security. |

As an ex sailor, I just think it's a shame that it'll be docked for approx. 9 months of the year.

Should be building more. Two is not enough. China has one. Two building both will be bigger than ours even one nuclear. One is the same size of USA largest. Both will be built before ours enters service.
With the extra we save from EU should be spent on military and the country. |
