Yes there's yet another thing to watch for - throat cancer is on the rise.
In the run up to Christmas 2016 I had the sense something was stuck in my throat after eating a load of nachos. A quick look in the mirror with a bright torch revealed a tonsil that was hugely swollen, multi coloured and NHS checker suggested I had a quinsey (abscess behind the wall of the tonsil), and a trip to A n E was in order.
Also the gums on that side were very raw / swollen and could bleed heavily on demand if I sucked my teeth (read gush out).
I've met enough 'professionals' to know the ones who really know their stuff and when she had a look straight away I saw the think bubble in her eyes saying it probably wasn't an infection - that and the lymph gland under my jaw was so big I couldn't properly look right but had sort of not realised.
Infact 2 of them checked my lymph nodes all over, armpit and groin then dispatched me to X ray for my chest after checking the 7 or so subtle signs of lymphoma / and other cancers with a series of questions and checking my abdomen for lumps in the spleen and liver especially.
2 Cannulas and blood tests later they gave me a throat swab and prescribed a strong antibiotic Ethyromycinas there was a residual infection going on.
Turned out to be a really bad streptococcus throat infection but had to go to ENT specialist as the cases of hpv-16 cervical cancer derived throat cancers are on the rise due to oral sex.
So important to get checked promptly as it had almost identical symptoms and everyone assumes going down is almost harmless.
This week I'll be asking about getting the GARASIL vaccine on my regular STI check as it can prevent these cancers.
Stay safe kids it was a bit of a wake up call I can tell you. |

It's good to know that it turned out not to be cancer and hopefully is treatable.
Do you consider it likely that oral sex was the cause of this problem?
