Just watched '3 days to kill' wasn't expecting much as wasn't a big film when it came out and heard no buzz about it.

Loved it, humour, twists, good film.

What was the last film that surprised you in being better than you thought it would?

Colonia with Emma Watson. Based on real events was a great film. Not normally a film I would watch.

Tom Cruise film called 'Edge Of Tomorrow', was retitled 'live, die, repeat'.

I thought it was going to be a brainless action movie in which Tom the hero blows shit up and saves the day, and whilst it does do all that eventually, the first hour is brilliant as its Tom that gets repeatedly blown up/ shot/ stabbed/ crushed etc in increasingly inventive and hilarious ways, all while he's playing against type as a cowardly non-hero. It's no classic but it is hugely entertaining. I must watch it again.

'Under the skin' was awesome, and it's 1h40m of scarlet johansson flouncing around in the buff as a consolation if you don't enjoy the movie.

This is the exact opposite of this thread for me. Was really looking forward to it as I love odd films and Scarlett - but I hated every minute of it!

I was going to say Kingsman too ... I was like, okay let's watch it to kill a couple of hours, but actually I really enjoyed it. It *was* very far fetched, but very funny and the main characters were well developed. I'm looking forward to the sequel later this year.

I loved edge of tomorrow but I am a ton cruise fan (I know I know but still)

But that film surprised my daughter who is not a fan.

Kingsman is another I've fancied for a while.

I'm terrible for watching the stuff I KNOW I'll like on Netflix/tv rather than trying new stuff.

But loads of tv shows are being cancelled (ones I watch) so I'm hoping new ones will be just as good.

I like all kinds, last one I saw at cinema was deadpool and I thoroughly enjoyed that. But I guessed I would as I like Ryan Reynolds (not just as a hotty but very quick wit and my sense of humour AND George Michael on sound track!)

It's a Netflix original film with a couple of actors you'll recognise (but I can't remember the name of ), and it's an absolutely brilliant action scifi film

I really enjoyed Kingsman, my son and I had a movie night, it was his choice and I expected to have to endure it, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

I also really enjoyed Suicide Squad, not normally in to superhero/antihero films.

Japanese animation (with english subtitles) often surpises me.

Spirited Away, 5cm per second (heart-breaking romance) or My Neighbours The Yamadas (funny).

Up is brilliant - totally didn't expect that.
