Just pray for shite weather at Eden park .. then lions revert to forward battle and fractured play .. line outs scrums etc etc etc .. play close to the front 5 and try starve the blacks of ball .. .. but class will probs tell .. .. referee will have his own agenda re scrums and breakdowns ..hopefully loads penalties for lions .. .. .. |

apparently suppose to be raining for 3 days almost solid.... so you may get your wish....
wyn jones is a better scrummager than itoje and probably in the tight....
i think liam williams is a liability under the high ball... i would have played 1/2 p
also eliott daly on a wing against iaone scares me.... |

"forgot to put up the bench...
Replacements: Ken Owens, Jack McGrath, Kyle Sinckler, Maro Itoje, Sam Warburton, Rhys Webb, Jonathan Sexton, Leigh Halfpenny"
In theory, Halfpenny will come on for the last 30 to finish the game off. Personally though, nothing I've seen (even in the games that we won) suggest that the Lions are the type of cohesive unit that you need to be to compete with even a sub-par All Blacks team... I'm expecting a thrashing.

actually i am quite confident with the forwards... but the backs do scare me!!!
fortunately for us the weather is forecast to be terrible so that may cut out the expansive game... |

2 of the kiwi backrow coming straight in from injury - not sure how battled hardened they might be - fantastic players they are though
And if Sam Caine gets on the wrong side of the ref he has trouble adjusting his game
And I agree their front row can be got at |

It was very entertaining but if you was a nsw fan you'd be pissed because JT couldn't pick up his right arm and if the NSW team was smart they'd focus their attack through him. But I'm not complaining lol |

Pretty pleased with Saturdays side, my only grumbles are not starting with itoji, our stand out performer in the lineout and loose.
And not starting with sexton at 10 is a mistake but hey, if it's not working we have them on the bench to come on at any time.
So pleased for Mahony, can't express how impressed with not just his game but his leadership skills I've been !
I still personally still believe we'll stick it up em on Saturday but as long as it's close I'll be pretty happy, beating the all blacks in their own back garden is nigh on impossible no matter how poor people rate their current team.
Come on you lions !! |

Agreed with what you say about Itoji. He'll be chomping at the bit when he comes off the bench though! |

if the lions are down in a close game on saturday... then you can always bring on sexton at 10 and move farrell out to 12....
the only thing i can see for starting AJW over Itoje is that maro will give you a lot more energy off the bench... which might not be the worst thing...
i thought he would have kept the saracens boys together and then Owens throwing in to AJW at line outs....
the ones that really worry me are liam williams and elliot daly.... and how are the lions are going to have to try and hide them on defense... my biigest fear that as come point te'o will be 12 and daly is going to get caught at 13 and SBW is going to lick his chops and mow them over....

i'll take only being down 5 at the half....
super try by SOB, i'd been cursing elliot daly's name all half but all is forgiven....
there are enough gaps in and around the ruck that if sexton does come on after 60... he will have a field day... |

"Trying desperately hard not to sound like a bitter jock but is this really going to be yet another tour with no blue jersey starting a test match.
Or even getting on the park? "
I would have played tommy Seymour on the wing tomorrow but I can see why they stuck with daly...
Other than that... agree with starting itoje and warburton... ajw is a lucky man not to be dropped! I would have played kruis or Courtney lawes
Playing sexton at 10 and Farrell at 12 is the right choice for me as kicks are now going to come from anywhere and will make life harder for the all blacks back 3 |

okay.... 1st half thoughts....
I take back what i said about AJW, he and itoje are playing really well....
love the way sexton and farrell are dove-tailing at 10/12.... they are switching positions all the time and is making for much quicker ball....
just kick the ball at naholo on the wing... he looks a liability

Good news on O'Brien, but even though it's the right choice, Sonny-Bill is a sad loss for the decider... such a fantastic player to watch.

team news today....
New Zealand team just announced.... 3 changes, all in the backs.....
Laumape, who came on and had a really good game starts for the Suspended Sonny Bill williams at 12,
both wingers from test 2 are dropped
Julian Savea comes in on one wing, Israel Dagg moves from full back to the other wing, Jordie Barrett comes in at Full back
the lions team is announced at 8....... i think the only question is going to be whether vinopula or macgrath starts at prop..... |

"Racist squad
Biased perhaps but racist is a bit strong.
And you can't blame the squad, just the man who picked them. "
the problem is i could have picked 5 or 6 scots who fully deserved to go on the tour.... but none of them would have likely been in my starting 15 or matchday 23
the only 1 i would have made an arguement for is stuart hogg... and he wasn't having the best of tours
I like the gray brothers..... but over AJW, or Itoje, or Kruis, or even Launchbury who also didn't go?
and i do like Hamish Watson and John Barclay so which the Back Rowers who did replace them with? or jamie heaslip who again was unlucky not to go?
I would have made the case for WP Nel if he has not have been injured all season and came back so late.
Finn Russell was unlucky.... but over Sexton or Farrell at 10?
so you tell me which Scot should have gone.... and which person you would have left out????? |

The last tour Gatland picks Richie Gray to come on for last 5 minutes of the last game for a cameo role, this time round no scots picked on the tour. Seymours been scoring tries. Awj & warburton have not played well for years. Ive said for years that at least 1 player from each country should start a game to call it b & i lions not pick 2 to be squad players. Scottish rugby has been improving the last 2 or 3 years while the welsh national team has stalled & went back but around 15 welsh players went. Gatland doesnt like scotland which is obvious. If Gatland wanted the best 15 to play then he should have picked all English players as they have been the best 6 home team for last couple of seasons. The integrity has gone from Gatlands selections from the off.launchbury should have been on the tour, warburton no.awj has the experience. Falatau hasnt had the best season but was an automatic pick. See what saturday brings. The welsh english & irish lions need to be at there best |

only 6 down when it could be 20..... the all blacks should be out of sight
sexton is limping round... if he cant shake it off after 5 minutes in the 2nd half get him off and bring on te'o....
good game but the tackling is brutal |

Great first half. Nerve jangling 2nd half.
The Lions were screaming at the touch judge every scrum second half but to balance that, he'll of a ref call with less that two minutes left.
Well done Lions, we'll done Rugby |

What a match!!
Best of British and Irish
Yeah but only when the ball was on a Tee"
Doesn't matter how the points are scored... |

Yeah but that wasn't what I ment.

thats just so instinctive and so close to him that it had to be accidental offside
can i be the first person to now advocate for extra time.... because as well as that was and as good as that game was.... it just feels...meh!
with time this will be called an epic.... but right now it just doesn't sit right |

Or Williams getting knocked in the back whilst in the air
Fair challenge in the air. You expect it from a kick off. "
It was only a tickle but NZ were never going to win that ball once it went over that line.
Great too see the respect between both teams

as someone who played their rugby trade at centre.... the work JD did both on and off the ball was immense... |
