Following todays accident The British Red Cross has so far managed to send 4000 crates of Sunny
Delight to the area to help with the crisis. Rescue workers are still
searching through the rubble and have found numerous 'Elizabeth Duke'
sovereign rings, benefit books and Pound stretcher ornaments.

I'm struggling to find anything funny in this thread especially given that people have had their lives disrupted and 2 people are very seriously injured - one of them suffering 70% burns.
Sorry to be a party pooper and all that ....... |

It's in very poor taste. I'm sure it would be a different story if any of the posters above family's had been involved?
Go on, tell me i'm wrong!

Really funny that one "Not"
it wasn't that funny a decade ago when I first heard it, Have you been waiting this long to apply this "joke" into a situation like this? I have a good friend who lives close to Barton Airport and when I heard the news I was quite distressed. What jokes do you have regarding that mass shooting in Norway?? Cant wait to hear them if they are as funny as the last one! Or was it more of a stab at saying where you live is far better than anywhere else? Do you actually know where Salford is without looking at google earth?? Isn't a large percentage of the BBC moving up north?? Salford I believe. enjoy your weekend.

Humor is subjective, one persons laugh is another persons tut tut...
People complaining about bad taste jokes, are they like Joke Cops?
Like the net cops, and others telling people what they can think???
I know people had homes damaged and 2 people were injured. but it doesn't stop the world... |

I bought my son an IPad, my daughter an iPod, and the wife an iRon. They were all happy bar the wife, even when I explained it went with her iWash, iCook and iClean. Then she started her iNag app which crashed the iShag app... |

I believe the essence of comedy is timing?
This was badly timed.
Written as a joke about 'A' plane crash in Salford or any other place that could utilise stereotypical images to raise a laugh it would have been fine.
Written as it was about 'THE' just occurred plane crash in Salford it is pure bad taste.
I take this stance as my heart skipped when I read it as my daughter lives there. She's fine.
I wrote my opinion on bad taste but deleted it.
I deleted it for the following reasons. I needed time to calm. The O.P. has always amused me in the past. Everone errs now and then. The OP does state that is a thread about stereotypes.
My final conclusion. It was badly timed and injurous to already high emotions.
Hey. - Jimmy Carr made the same mistake with injured soldier jokes. He found it within himself to apologise. Him! The coldest edgiest 'comic' ( im not fond )But then, the media were on to him and he earns a crust from oozing bad taste jibes. Less an apology and more a bank balance requirement.
Incidentally - Are you a Joke Cop Cop ? |

Nobody died in the crash, so aren't people taking things a bit too seriously? I wonder how many people have giggled at the Amy Winehouse jokes going around, or any other joke that surfaces when a celeb meets his or her maker. Humour is subjective and what one person finds distasteful another finds comical, it doesn't make the joke any less of a joke - only how we individually interpret it.

I suppose you, Wishy, would feel the same if it had been one of your family that suffered the 70% burns or had their home destroyed eh?
No one died but that doesn't make the situation any less grave for those involved and the 'joke' or 'humour' in my opinion is in bad taste

I haven't heard any Winehouse jokes. Maybe I will when im out tonight.
I don't know why I feel celebrity to be slightly 'fairer game' than ordinary citizens. Maybe it's an emotional distance. |

Nope, I guess I wouldn't have found it funny if I was directly involved. But then I didn't think the joke was all that funny anyway. |

I would say the "joke" had nothing to do with the plane crash. It is nothing like the black jokes that go round.
It was just another of those sterotype "jokes" that are bandied about by people who have probably never been near these places and where the location gets changed to suit the "joke" |

I'd like to apologise to any offended...poor taste? yes..offensive? I don't believe so.
Remind me never to tell a WW2 joke..I mean, how many died? or is it really about timing? |

I think you will find it wasn't me who said it was bad taste or offensive, so I am not sure why you are quoting me.
I just said it wasn't a funny "joke" for me. |
