I know hedgehogs are cute wee creatures but we are plagued with them. As soon as i let the dog before bed he goes straight over to where they are. The barks of him are crazy & he runs everytime i go to grab him. Hes even tried lifting one in his mouth. Any idea how to get rid of them. 2 have been spotted & they go between our hse & nxt door. |

"well they aren't a pest so just contact your version of the RSPCA and let them come and take them away"
They're close to becoming endangered. I'd imagine the OP will just be told to leave them alone. |

Over here on the island they are a pest. Some well meaning idiot introduced them to the island. Problem is that there are virtually no trees here so all the birds nest on the ground in the heather, rocks, and cliffs. The hedgehogs of course love the eggs and many blame the hedgehogs for the decline in the bird population as they have no natural predator. |

They're nocturnal, they will only come out at night.

They ONLY come out at night. If one is out in daylight then it is ill or injured and needs urgent medical help |

We found a poor little hedgehog struggling across our decking caught up is polythene. As soon as we freed him he whizzed off. It felt like a nice good deed. |

But removal is the preferential response, removal to the mainland. |

You could try leaving food outside your garden if you can it might move it on. Or catch it put it in a deep box and phone up the RSPCA saying that you found it out during the day. They normally send someone out to receive it. |

"put up some low level chicken wire around your garden to stop them getting in if you cant control your dog..they are dying out in lots of areas."
Or, if at all possible, some taller chicken wire to keep the dog out of the area they are in? |

Hedgehogs are close to becoming endangered due to habitat loss so we should all be doing everything we can to protect them.
Try training your dog to leave. It's a valuable command and is necessary for your dogs health and wellbeing as well as for the hedgehogs. There has been instances in my area where dogs have been injured by picking up "spiked" meat etc. If your dog will leave on command you could protect him, it might not be a hedgehog that gets his attention next time. |

Lots of hedgehog support resources in northern Ireland, including recue centres. There are also duties upon us all to maintain our own behaviour within limits as well as of those animals that we are responsible for, as part of their license conditions. |

They are endangered. And the dog training is the sensible thing to do for sure |

The only problem with that idea is they release them back where they were found once they are in good shape |

Handling Newt again, are we? "
Indeed! Several more over the weekend. And a toad!
Gardening takes ages when I'm forever running into the house calling the monsters to look what I've found.
Last weekend they were also told about ladybird larvae, weevils and millipedes. |
