Diazepam / Valium
Jump to: Newest in thread
I suffer from severe anxiety, depression, PTSD and insomnia but now I feel so happy, sleep like a baby and anxiety is so chilled! Life is great for once and it's all down to diazepam (Valium).
Anyone else tried? |

I've used it as a muscle relaxant. A year ago tomorrow, I went to hospital with serious back pain, caused by driving a VW camper as my daughters wedding car!
They prescribed me Diazapam to relax the muscles, and it was so brilliant.
A few weeks ago, I took some more for leg cramps.
But..
I've never taken them for more than four days at a time. Having been down that road after my father's death, a year on paroxatene, I'm very careful |

I was prescribed Lorazepam years ago, they saved my life. I've had diazepam for back spasms; the Lorazepam were better I think. I didn't have any trouble stopping either of them. |

diazepam is great- just be careful with it. it shouldn't be taken lightly and definitely not long term- very addictive. .. take it as a stepping stone for you to be able to do things later on without them! |

I noted that & in one he 'offered' some to another fab member then retracted it but fortunately the other person replied with comment.

They don't work long term, your body will QUICKLY develop a tolerance to them and you'll ultimately just be taking them in the end to ward off horrific withdrawal symptoms.
Short term they're very good though. You should look into Zolpidem or other z class sedatives or even cbd oil. Certain antihistamines can also treat anxiety. Benzodiazepines are a very useful short term solution. Long term they don't work and cause addiction. |

I didn't offer them at all, I said 'it sounds like you need some of the blue pills too' as I'm prescribed them for my mental health. I'd be fucked if I gave them away! |

Hearing proper reviews on diazepam from a swingers site. Surely your GP would have discussed all this with you before prescribing it. Most pharmacists will gladly have a discussion about medications that you are taking OP also so that's maybe a better option also.
You say you're reluctant to take however on your other threads you don't seem too reluctant. |

I've been on them for a few weeks now but heard negative things about them. You know what doctors are like, always thinking they're right so I just wanted real life experiences from people, that's all. Mental health is spreading, fast, and I don't want mine to get any worse so wondering should I stop taking them or stay on them? |

Go and speak with your GP or pharmacist! Benzodiazepines are highly addictive and aren't usually prescribed easily. I wouldn't suggest that you stop taking them, I would suggest that you take advice from a professional. |

Yeah good point. I do feel they're working but I hear they're very addictive so I'm reluctant to take them. I'll have a word with my doc. Cheers guys! |

Agreeing with those who say it's addictive and your body will develop a tolerance. It worked wonders for my insomnia many years ago in that I slept because it knocked me out but it was a temporary relief as the doc wouldn't prescribe it long term. |

Gosh!! I worded it wrong, sorry! It's not as if I'm going to give anyone my meds, I need them myself. I'm here for advice on people who have been on them theirself, I'm wondering what to expect when the doc stops them. Will I become dependant or will it cure me? |

I had ptsd an had to move to sort that out for me. I take diazepam for epilepsy, if I think I'm going to have a fit I take one. I buy mine as doctors won't prescribe as they are highly addictive. So maybe just have them on bad days.
You know your body an personality.
I've not had any for a while now. As they can be hard to come by. I take a lot of vitamins instead now. Find they work wonders. |

I think we're all confused now.... I was prescribed them about 3 weeks ago and I've been happy with the results but I don't want to get addicted or depend on them. That's why I'm asking for people's opinions. I'll speak to my GP in the week |

It's just a symptomatic relief.
You can't sleep - it knocks you out.
But it doesnt really solve the cause of the insomnia. |

Diazepam are useful if used properly and occasionally x |

Zapain is just branded co-codamol ie paracetamol and codeine so not likely to help you as the majority of drug interventions for ADHD are stimulants |

From a personal pov and coming from someone who has been addicted to prescription drugs I would suggest you go back to your gp and try and find an alternative to the diazapam. I've been on amytripteline (sp) and yes they are fantastic but not a healthy solution long term x |

Just speak to Dr then, say you are worried about the Diazepam long term use or just try to only use them when you really need to -as mentioned they are addictive and having had them myself for trapped nerve I can quite see why.
If that doseage of propranolol not doing for you then there are other beta blockers they can use. Hope you are feeling more in control / better soon OP! Xx

Fluoxetine(Prozac) is not usually a first choice anti depressant usually citalopram sertralline would be prescribed first often propranolol will be prescribed aswell as an anti depressant to help with anxiety. It's a beta blocker and can make you sleepy and weight gain but is quite effective. |

I've tried many of the above with varying success during and in the aftermath of losing my husband. I couldn't tolerate the citalopram, it made me really weary. I was sleeping through the night and till lunch the next day, terrible things for me.
I have found propanslol and Valium worked and still take when needed to help cope in stressful situations. Never taken either regular, just as and when.
Didn't know about weight gain though. So that's why I'm a fat cow |

Years ago when I had a nervous breakdown my dr prescribed Valium and beta blockers and all the anxiety floated away...
However as he had only prescribed 2 weeks worth, I never went back for more as I wanted to get better rather than use something to mask the symptoms |

That sounds like a very high dose! I was prescribed 10mg propranolol to help with uncontrollable Shaking due to severe anxiety, Diazepam 2mg, 225mg venlafaxine for depression and 7.5mg vimovane for insomnia.
Propranolol had no effect
Diazepam calmed me slightly but sometimes had to take 2 of them
Vimovane would let me sleep for a couple of hours.
I'm now feeling quite a bit better and weaned myself off the meds, just on venlafaxine 150mg.
One day at a time. |

Yes both them can be used as and when and don't have to be used regular to have an effect. Where's anti depressants work differently. Propranolol is a steroid (beta blocker) so weight gain can be a side effect but not in everyone xx |

Would you say that moving on to Prozac from Setraline is common then?
If so I might suggest it to my GP. For me, not him |

I wouldn't say it's common. Speak with your gp about your concerns and see what he suggests. Anti depressants are to stabilise your mind so as your hitting a plateau as such this could be quite normal , but speak to your gp. X |

"Thank you so much guys. I've been on meds now for about 6 years and the doc keeps saying 'try these and give it time' blah blah... That's why I was asking for people's personal experiences"
Some meds work for some but not others, I've been on 3 different antidepressants over the years, fluoxetine made me clench my teeth, venlafaxine worked best for me in its slow release form... vensir xl, but the higher dose of 225mg gave me the shakes.
Bare in mind it takes an average of 6 weeks for a new med to start working effectively and the dose may have to be adjusted for it to be beneficial to you.
Also if you are changing meds you will have to lower the dose of med1 to nothing before starting med2 and increasing its dose, I can be a month or 2 before noticing any difference so don't expect immediate results |
