My sons mate and his missus just called round to show off their newborn. As I cuddled baba I said remember what you lot were like when you were teenagers - you have all that to come He laughed and reminded me of something I said to my son once.
He was fourteen and ranting to be allowed to go to a party which I considered too far away and in the end he exploded with
"Are you a complete retard mam!?!"
I just replied "No son I don't suppose I will become a complete retard until you reach sixteen and I refuse to let you have a motorbike". Exit left.
How did you handle teenage disdain? If yours haven't reached their teens yet - whats your master plan. If you're not long out your teens or still remember your teens - how did your parents render you speechless when you were tantruming? |

I've always been quite laid back and when my parents refused whatever it was I'd asked for I used to just shrug my shoulders and walk away. I think it bugged them more than it bugged me as they were expecting the tantrums etc. My slightly elder brother was the same, and so were my two sisters, none of us ever gave it the big boo hoo on reflection. |

nah not having it I spotted the chink in your armour... 'slightly' elder brother. Your use of the word slightly indicates that he supressed you as a teen not your parents. So in order to show him he wasnt the grown up you behaved in an abnormally adult way to prove to him you in fact deserved the elder boy tag....... you can't get over being born second and have decided to be overly laid back. In conclusion - your head will in fact, one day, explode. |

There is 13 months between me and my bro so we've always been treated a bit like twins. He's a sports mad nut and I was the intellectual, but we both inherited our Mother's 'que sera sera' gene. Even now I adopt the approach that if I can change or fix something I don't waste time worrying about it. |

was too busy doing as i wanted to ask my mum for anything lol didnt really care and she didnt seem to either, having four teens would be a tough job i suppose.
as for my three kids, oh dear, i cant even begin to imagine how i'll deal with them when theyre older. one is almost 5yo and like a stroppy teen already
will worry about all that when it comes tho, too much to do in the meantime
