The bloke has been convicted of a very serious crime.
People forget that.
My dad was a professional boxer, my parents have pictures of EVERY legendary boxer lined in their hallway and up the stairs.
Mike Tyson isn't one of them. |

Haven't forgotten, have considered the evidence for myself, as best i can, and in my opinion it was a miscarriage of justice. |

"Dont know bout baddest but certainly for me up there as the greatest boxer"
Not sure I'd go that far, i think he had a ferocious style - which is why i said entertaining. If you could weather the storm as lennox lewis did then there were more skilled boxers in my opinion, but most couldn't! |

"No if your going back its got to be the Duran, sugar, hearns, haglar era for me" .
Personally I think if you want the greatest fighter of all time you can't look any further than one of them four |

My best mate and his brother were both pro boxers and one of them beat Duran
My mate is my boxing coach too and gave me the ring name "hands of stone" |

Not sure they are there on the entertaining scale though? Ali gives him a run for his money though, i think Ali was the original and Mike was the remake for an 80's / 90's audience. |

In the early days, in his prime. He was a ferociously unstoppable power house, had most opponents beaten just by his stare. Not the best boxer ever but deserves his place. |

Duran made Tyson look saintly.
He basically blew all his money after every fight and then needed another fight to pay for his new woman/drug/gambling/house..
Which is why he fought like it meant something.. Coz it did |

Exactly, theres a great interview with him where he talks about all the warfare tactics he studied, not just the classics like machiavelli and sun tzu but also lesser known ones like pepin the short. It's what cus d'amato taught him. He had the art of intimidation down to perfection. |

Regardless of the conviction, this may sound horrible, but it didn't take away anything from his ability as a boxer. What he did out of the ring wasn't passable at all, he just didn't conduct himself in a way a champion should out of it. |

"The heavyweight division was shit when mike was at his best... That in no way implies he was shit but you have to factor it in"
I agree, & I think there have been loads of better boxers, you've named a few. But he was a fighter not a boxer, & he was undoubtedly ferocious. |

Don King is a poison to boxers. Mike went off the rails when Cus died. I don't believe Mike would have been in that many compromising situations if he wasn't hanging around with so many dickheads after cus died. |

In the heavyweight division, I think Ali was the greatest ever boxer and Tyson was the greatest ever fighter. People say about Tyson being ferocious, but his defence was fantastic.
That said, Hagler is my boxing hero. I still think he was robbed in the Sugar Ray fight |

Yeah that's where i find MMA more exciting than boxing. Outside a few select heavyweights, boxing is unlikely to have first round stoppages. The threat of submission or knock out, kick or punch just means you can't blink in a good MMA fight. |

Boxing is only one part of MMA tho which is why i find it more enjoyable for the points you mention as well.. any given day anyone can beat the other guy.. |

Hearns was an absolute monster. A 6ft 1" welterweight with a 78 inch reach and dynamite in each hand. Won his first 32 fights (30 by KO) then ran into Leonard. Watch his early fights, you will wonder how he ever lost. His 2nd round KO of Duran is chilling.
As fantasy matchups go I'd love to have seen hearns vs mayweather jnr, would have been a massacre.

Re mike, he was just what HW division needed at the time, it was full of crackheads that needed taking out and mike cleaned it up. It was a weak division though. Undoubtedly exciting fighter and a magnetic personality but he did have a few stinkers and off nights even during his rise to the top.
In terms of his greatness, the fact he never won a fight where he was the underdog and never turned a fight around that he was losing count against him. Once a fighter got on top of him he would get ko'd or panic and do something crazy.
At his peak he'd have had a chance of ko'ing any HW fighter in history early.

That 80s middleweight period probably did more for boxing than anybody, I'm not entirely sure but I think hearns boxed at six weights which is an achievement all on its own |
