I think so, yes. Many are justifying it by saying it's not in their culture to do 'minutes silences' but sometimes you do it to adhere to others principles and out of respect and decency to other cultures. |

There are examples of people holding a minutes silence in sporting events in the middle east. So the cultural difference excuse is bullshit, as it usually is. |

"From the pic I saw, 2 did appear to stand with their hands behind their back
What did the others do?
Wondered about a bit.
Making a point? "
Quite passive-aggresive behaviour really. |

Did they make a noise? Or do it in silence? |

How many people here had a minutes silence for the people killed in an explosion in Afghanistan not long ago? Different cultures, different cares. Just how humans are |

It's not a good point. Everyone reading this thread would have participated if they were guests in an affected country. They wouldn't have shown the contempt that these players have. |

It's exactly the point. We do it because it's our culture they don't in there's. Different cultures, different cares |

Exactly. If a moment of silence (or some other culturally appropriate form of mourning) was called for an atrocity in Saudi Arabia, it would have been horrendous if the opposing side refused to particpate. Regardless of their nationality or culture. |

" Out of order or not? "
America and britain drops bomb on Pakistan and Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq killing innocent souls.. I don't see any British diplomats standing still neither do I see football matches honoring the dead.
Britain is an island pushing its weight |

So many responses, so I'm not going to quote them all.
So, if I was in Afghanistan or Saudi and there was a ceremony related to mourning, I would do the respectful thing and observe it, or at the very least remove myself from the situation so as not to cause offence.
I spent 9 years in Saudi, and there were many customs that didn't make sense, but I followed them simply to have an easy life.
Let's face it soccer players aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.
Plus Saudis are likely to be contemptuous of our handling of terrorism. |

Could it be that the players don't understand the announcement (english)?
Won't deny the fact that people from that region are not very respectful of others though (just a personal opinion and experience).
