I know a lot of you Fabbers love a good film! And some of you have some wide and varied tastes. So.. What good films have you seen that you enjoyed.. or made you go WTF was that all about ffs.. and what weird films would you highly recommend to others???
Only thing is... NOT a 'Hollywood Blockbuster' type movie lol. So as weird or as foreign and as subbed as you like, anything but mainstream.
I'll start off with:
Man eats Dog (Belgian) - camera crew follows a serial killer.. shit goes south.
Symbol (Japanese) - man wakes up in room with plastic penises all over the wall.
Oldboy (Japanese) - man taken and held in a hotel room for 15 years.. he escapes and tries to find out why he was held.
High tension (French) - 2 chicks go to her friends house.. shit goes south.
The Raid (Indo). If you haven't seen this yet, why not?!!!!?
Get Out (American) - A chick and her boyfriend go to vists her folks for the weekend.. but they don't know he is black.
TurboKid (American) - Boy finds a superhero's glove.. and decides to use it. (OK, I'm prolly flying a bit close to my rule with this one lol)
La Horde. (French). Zombies. But IMO, the best zombies in a garage scene ever.
Bait (English - 2014) - 2 women dream of owning their own cafe... then encounter a loan shark. Shit goes south. Violently.
I included the date above, so not to confuse the film with
Bait (Australian - 2012) - Tsunami traps shoppers in a supermarket.. with great white sharks.
Over to you, fabbers!!!

I love finding new films randomly.
Off the top of my head;
Exam
The Cube
The Woman
The Collector & The Collection
Necromentia
ABCs of Death
V/H/S
Few genuinely brilliant films, some alright, 1 or 2 wtfs |

ohh The Cube I really liked!! well, the first anyway :D the 2nd was reasonable, and the 3rd was deffo WTF lol.
Was the Exam where a few people were all in one room, and had to answer a question? If so, that was pretty good.
Reminds me of Circle.. was a pretty good film IMO for a PG rated film. I was pleasantly surprised. |

oh yes Old boy is amazing.
I found `The Chaser (chugyegja) is one of the finest films I have seen. On Edge throughout, great acting and storyline.
Also Betty Blue
Red Cliff
Pans Labyrinth
Hero (chinese film)
To name a few non Blockbuster I believe and recommend every film above.

Normally I'd jump in here and say Mulholland Drive - it definitely wasn't a mainstream film but has gained a bit of a critical, cult and commercial following and was recently named best movie of 21st Century so far... so I'll say INLAND EMPIRE - also written and directed by David Lynch.
Audition - made me feel very uncomfortable but I couldn't look away.
Battle Royale - basically the Hunger Games stole this idea, in my opinion.
A_elie - beautiful movie
Children of the Lost City - same, but not in the same way
The Station Agent - that Peter Dinklage guy will go far. Keep an eye on him.
Sideways - even if you don't like wine
City of God - just because
Being John Malkovich - mental idea made into a mental movie featuring mental people
Y Tu Mama Tambien - beautiful funny sad and real in an unlikely way
More when I fully wake up |

Ace thread OP!
I love the suggestions of yours that I've heard of so will defo look into the ones I haven't
I'll add...
The hairdressers husband - very off kilter french romance. Very funny in places too.
Christiane F - German film about teenage heroin addiction and prostitution. Soundtracked by (and briefly starring) David Bowie.
Wings Of Desire - An angel falls in love with a human and asks to be made human himself so he can pursue her. Stars Columbo and features ace cameo by Nick Cave. Watch the German original, ignore the terrible remake starring nicholas cage.
The Lives Of Others - Set in communist East Germany. A member of the Stasi is made to spy on artistic couple suspected of being traitors to the state. |

It was indeed!! But I watched it when it was called Haute Tension.. cause, yannow.. ponce here
Loving all the suggestions... keep 'em coming!! I will have more when I wake up. Cause I have seen many a weird film ... mainly thanks to Mr
A couple more before I go....
Feast. (American). A VERY entertaining take on the horror trope.
Rubber. (American). A killer tyre who can kill people by exploding their heads. (Seriously, its great).
Wrong cops (American). I FUCKING LOVE THIS FILM. Its 20 shades of fucked up. And you will never look at Marilyn Manson in the same way again, cause he features in this film. |

Oh!! that reminds me of Bad Boy Bubby.. an Oz film, pretty dark.. A son is kept by his mother in a cellar type thing, and he is told he cannot go outside cause he will die cause its all poisonous.. she wears a gasmask whenever she comes in and goes out. Very good film... but not for the faint hearted. |

Already had oldboy and battle royale mentioned but the other DVD I've got from the tartan Asia extreme range is my favourite, Lady Vengeance~ goes to prison for a crime she didn't do, does favours for people inside so they help her when she gets out, she gets out and basically gets revenge.
I love drive, with Ryan Gosling, he's stunning in that film. |

Weiner-dog ... a dark, starkly funny story of a single dog and the many different people she touches over her short lifetime.
Themroc - Made without proper language, just gibberish and grunts, this is an absurdist comedy about a man who rejects every facet of normal bourgeois life and turns his apartment into a virtual cave.
Alphaville - A U.S. secret agent is sent to the distant space city of Alphaville where he must find a missing person and free the city from its tyrannical ruler.
The Music Lovers - a Piano teacher struggles against his homosexuality by marrying, but unfortunately he chooses a nymphomaniac whom he cannot satisfy.

A member of the Stasi is made to spy on artistic couple suspected of being traitors to the state."
The Lives of Others is one of my favourite films. |

can heartedly recommend the following:
begin again..ok Hollywood cast but was a sleepy film about musicians..keira knightly sings !!!
sing street.. by same director/writer..trials and tribulations of wooing a girl with your own band..set in 80's..cracking soundtrack
chef ... jon favreau sleeper..great feel good film
la haine.... classic French thriller..soundtrack by Asian dub foundation is hypnotic
iron sky....Nazis on the moon...nothing else to say such a good bad film!
4.3.2.1 ...noel Clarke thriller...can be watched 4 ways on dvd!!
the anomaly ...noel clark again..nice little sci-fi thriller
hard boiled/the killer/internal affairs ...jon woo hong kong thrillers tht heavily influenced Tarnation & Rodriguez
_estless natives ....as a teen I could quote large chunks of this Scottish comedy based on hijacking tourist buses in the highlands...soundtrack by big country

"In Bruges and The Guard are both funny as fuck"
Have you seen Calvary? Written & directed by the same guy that made the guard and it also stars Brendan Gleeson. It's very funny in places as you would expect but i wouldn't call it a comedy. It's about a priest who is told he's going to be killed in 7 days by a member of his flock. Excellent film.
If you like In Bruge & The Guard i very much recommend it. |

You can get a Blu Ray player for about £40 that will play both. Streaming services are unlikely to have some of the more obscure films listed here but they're dirt cheap in physical formats. |

Loving the suggestions!! I'm scribbling furiously
Look whose back (Er ist wieder da!) (German) - Hitler wakes up in modern day Berlin with no memory of what happened after 1945. I was really impressed by this film, and its actually a comedy of sorts. A lot of the film is unscripted when the guy playing Hitler talks to the german people. |

Loads of great films already mentioned... Train to Busan, Shaolin Soccer (watch it with subtitles as they're much cruder), Totorro, Battle Royale, City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, The Host, Wings Of Desire, Troll Hunter
Some more...
Exotica - Canadian, like Blue Velvet in reverse
Together - Danish, touching comedy about a hippy commune
The Man Without A Past - uniquely odd Finnish film
The Japanese Wife Next Door - sex mad wife fucks her way through the whole family funny and weird
The Boss of it all - Lars von trier does comedy!
Incendies - watch it before bladerunner comes out. Totally fucked up genius
Cache - you know within the first minute you're watching a great film
The Vanishing - original Dutch version very disturbing |

A while back I got into French cinema in a big way.
The Big Blue... or the French version longe " Le Gramd Bleu" is an amazing work regarding free divers and innocence. There are a few big names in it. However, the music enhancing the images is equally outstanding.
Directed by Luc Besson.... music is by Erik Serra.
And they've both produced that many blockbusters since - e.g. Fifth Element to name just one. |

Das Boot, was made into a series as well, fantastic WWII movie set inside a German U-boat. You watch it and can feel the claustrophobia and smell the diesel, damp and stench, brilliant. |

"I know a lot of you Fabbers love a good film!
"
Oh, you are really into horror and other dark movies |
