Apparently the failure of British Airways computer system was down to one engineer. I bet he won't be working there long!

I'm not so sure about him getting the sack, everyone makes mistakes (albeit his was an expensive one). Replacing him doesn't lessen the likelihood of something similar happening in the future.

He may have had an unblemished career with BA prior to this.

Essentially, yes.

Turning servers off causes bedlam on large scale networks like that.
