Expected it sooner to be honest, tragic story of a girl that got in with the wrong crowd. She had the World at her feet and loving people around her trying to help her but it appears it was all in vain.

I really feel for her long suffering family to be honest.

Maybe she can find the peace in death she couldn't find in life.

I don't think she's earned the right to be listed alongside Marley, Joplin or Hendrix. A talent unfulfilled is probably how history will remember her.

Sadly you are right of course. I say sadly, because it shows that people are more moved by celebrity than by a truly terrible tragedy to people who had not asked for or deserved death! Not saying Amy Winehouse deserved death, but she seemed to court it every day! Oh.. and I was just giving my opinion, as I have a right to do!

Absolutely. No parent should outlive their child. It must have been heartbreaking for Amy Winehouse's father to watch his daughter descend into hell and be powerless to prevent it. He tried so hard to turn her around - even at the cost of his own health, but she was on a one way journey to oblivion and he couldn't save her. As a father myself, I feel for her father, for sure.

The second album was not only over produced it was incorrectly titled. I believe it should have been called Back to Back Back to Back being the slang for a hit of Crack followed immediately by a shot of Heroin, or vice versa.

I'm not sure about that theory - the lyrics make sense as being about depression - if you take black as a word for depression (as in 'Black Dog On My Shoulder') or as a word for mourning - as in Back in Black.....

It is widely credited that the album was almost entirely about her split with Blake Fielder-Civil, so yes, you're probably correct about Back to Black being about mourning that relationship in a state of depression.

I know Wishy, but it's how I feel and I'm not intimidated by anyone on here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion: that's mine!

I have stood beside a grave that contained the remains of my child: so I empathise with her loved ones, as I would with anyone losing someone close.

However, I can't join the boo hooing for someone who didn't "care" about themself when my senses are being bombarded with the sight of kids being mown down in their prime by another aggrieved nutter!

Hear! Hear!

Those Norwegian kids did not stand a chance!

Those who are bleating on tonight about "poor" Amy Winehouse forget that she had a chance, in fact many chances to get her life back on track, but she blew it.

My sorrow is for those in Norway, not a two bit singer who continually thrust two fingers up at everyone who tried to help her!

I agree. Whether you like her music or not it is tragic whatever the circumstances and my thoughts are with her family and friends.

I personally don't think it is a case of, those people in Oslo died a wors death than someone else.

I just think it is sad that a young life has gone and there are two devastated parents and other family and friends grieving right now.

Just like I think there are a hell of a lot more devastated parents/ family and friends grieving in Oslo.

I don't think anyones grief will be any less no matter how their relatives die.

The big difference being that the parents in Oslo probably thought they would outlive their children by some years....whereas the parents of Amy Winehouse must have been very aware that this day was alomost inevitable the way she lived her life and abused her mind and body.

Just hope this brings a 'peace' if you like to all her family. They do not have to see her destroy herself for year, and hopefully there will have been good times before the sudden end to no doubt a much loved but much toubled human being.

Naturally its sad for her friends & family. I've not said she isnt talented.. (ive never bought any of her music) but she had complete control of her life

No one forced vodka down her neck, or made her snort /inject heroin. With every action there is a consequence. She went into rehab several times - hell we all know the song she wrote about it.

Yet people still think 'oh what a shame' she was a waster..

No doubt they had those fears knowing her history, but I bet in the back of their minds they didn't think or at hoped that it would happen really.

I just think it isn't a competition as to who should have the most sympathy.

I feel sorry for all the parents.

Amy went into rehab recently to try and clean up after a disaterous concert. That was surely her cry for help in a weakend mental state?. Addiction is a terrible thing that alters the state of the mind.. who is to say she was deeply troubled and battling depression..?

I just think some of the comments on here are very cold.

Where is the empathy for a fellow human being who probably tried very hard on a number of occassions to get better but was too imbalanced to maintain that path ?

I for one cringe at some of the comments posted on here. It's so frustrating that we as a human race can be so cold towards one another.

Are you confusing empathy and sympathy?

I can empathize with her family, but I can't empathize with Amy Winehouse on any genuine level because we have almost nothing in common. And yes, she wrote a couple of decent songs which touch me, but compared to some of the jazz and soul greats she's foolishly listed alongside, her suffering is incomprehensible to me, and seems just a little overblown in a narcissistic way. She's no Rosetta Tharp or Billie Holliday, eating by the side of the road because black people weren't allowed in restaurants. She's just someone with an addiction and a taste for criminals and criminality, and that doesn't bring out my touchy feely side I'm afraid.

"In her corrupt world it was probably was called Back to Back initially. The record label would have had something to say about that though.

I'm not sure about that theory - the lyrics make sense as being about depression - if you take black as a word for depression (as in 'Black Dog On My Shoulder') or as a word for mourning - as in Back in Black.....

It is widely credited that the album was almost entirely about her split with Blake Fielder-Civil, so yes, you're probably correct about Back to Black being about mourning that relationship in a state of depression."

Are there anymore 'facts' that you have scrounged from 'Wiki' Wishy ??? ...

Extremely well said!

I am not pointing fingers, but it has become quite clear to me that some are quick to jump down the throat of the poor girl lying dead on a cold slab tonight.

I seriously do not think for one minute that she and other addicts actually wanted to feel that desperate for their next buzz. It is well known that her ex-hubby led her down the path of hardcore substances.... I refuse to blame him though as he was and addict himself.

I've seen it first hand, someone battling a frightening addiction, it's horrendous. It's a battle that they sadly lost aged only a year older than poor Amy.

any death is sad at such a young age .

however amy chose her direction in life .she also had meny many chances, resorces and family support that other addicts would be greatful to have fraction of that chance to get clean . the people brutally gunned down had no choice in their situation and no chance .

As metaphors go, the idea that anyone is jumping down the throat of a poor dead girl is pretty atrocious.

Do you think it's callous of me to refuse to mourn Amy Winehouse? It doesn't mean I might not mourn your brother, and it certainly doesn't mean I don't empathize with you in your grief.

I'm just sick to my guts of this constant outpouring of synthetic grief over this celebrity or that one. I don't like living in Princess Diana's Britain, where people leave tacky poundshop trinkets by the side of the road to mark the spot where someone they never knew got stabbed by someone else in a row over drugs. It's the worst kind of emotional exhibitionism, and when it's allied to the kind of uncritical revisionism that makes a legend out of a pretty ordinary talent like Amy WInehouse I speak my mind.

But that doesn't mean I don't wish you didn't have to go through the loss of your brother...

no one is asking anyone too weep, wail and show grief but don't you think it's a little sad to be badmouthing the deceased? A little dignity isn't much to ask for, if you can't do that then things are maybe best left unsaid?

Hmmm im quite shocked at some of the comments here too.

Is anyone on this forum a recovered heroin addict, if so then perhaps you could share the experience of getting clean and whether it was difficult and how you achieved it, or was it really easy to give up, perhaps as easy as giving up sugar in your tea. Perhaps those recovered addicts could enlighten us on their state of mind when they were pumping heroin through their veins? Are they capable of conscious thought? Were the only friends they had addicts too, were they constantly surrounded by addiction.

I have never taken drugs so I do not know. Maybe it really is easy to give up and Amy was just a stubborn bitch, deliberately hurting her family. Or maybe the only conscious thoughts in her head was when the next fix would come and she just wasnt strong enough. Whatever the real reason, Id like to think I have compassion for people who sometimes choose the wrong path and are not strong enough to help themselves.

I have a friend whose sister suffered from Anorexia. She was in a wheelchair and obviously in and out of hospital. She looked like a prisoner from Auschwitz. I was terrified to go round to my friends house as her sister frightened the shit out of me with the look of her. She was covered in hair, a natural reaction to keep the body warm as she had no fat. She was about 3 stone when she died.

Now her family went through hell, doing everything they could to make her eat, the only time she would was when she was in hospital. And all they could do was watch her organs shut down until she died, and they were powerless to stop it.

Can you all honestly say that with people who are in the throes of mental illness or addiction, that its their own fault they are that way, and as it is self inflicted they deserve to die.

Whatever the reasons, whether Amy was as talented as Billie Holiday or not, its a bloody shame that a young girl died.

And on this day of awful shocking news and tragedy, I cant really measure anyones death as being more important than others.

I am just off to bake a very large humble pie! Not for me you understand, but for those who believe that Amy Winehouse's post mortem will say that she died "clean"!

As I said in an earlier post, it is so sad when celebrity is mourned more than 85 innocent kids on holiday and mown down!

I also notice that most of the people getting heated or "protecting" Winehouse haven't posted their sympathies on the Oslo thread! The tabloids have much to answer for!

I don't think anyone is saying she should be mourned more than the victims in Oslo but she was still a human being and deserves a bit of respect, whether you liked the way she lived or not!

I haven't posted my sympathy here. I've not posted on the Oslo thread either. I don't read the tabloids. I don't feel the need to judge other people for their choices in life whether it be for artists they were fans of or tragedies that happen in the world we live in. I feel the need for personal choice and privacy and not to be judged by people who make sweeping generalisations and judgemental remarks without facts.

"Are there anymore 'facts' that you have scrounged from 'Wiki' Wishy ??? ..."

I'm sure I could scrounge a couple, what's your poison?

... on this occasion though, look to the bbc website, it was all on there. Profile: Amy Winehouse, unless they've updated it.

I can only speak for myself. I wrote on this thread because I can offer thoughts on this. I am deeply shocked about the Oslo situation, im reading news stories on it and its so horrific its incomprehensible.

However I will not be judged on which thread I chose to post on first. I have a choice when I read the forums and I do what I want to do. I personally dont give a shit as to your interpretation of the timings of my posts. Dont make assumptions about me, or that I am only interested in celebrity and tabloids and am not capable of offering discussion on other topics on this forum!

"I'm just sick to my guts of this constant outpouring of synthetic grief over this celebrity or that one.

But that doesn't mean I don't wish you didn't have to go through the loss of your brother..."

Like I say.... I don't point any fingers... you made the assumption you were one of them

Trouble is Awayman... If I started excluding people that made assumptions I was getting annoyed with then it'll narrow it down too much and I'll probably get accused of 'bullying' which isn't the case.

I'm strong enough to stand without wallowing in self pity about my brother... It was a long time ago... I just think tw***y comments like "she brought on herself" and "she knew what she was doing" show an awful lot of ignorance when it comes to showing what some folk know about addictions

I don't read tabloids... I haven't done so for I'm guessing 7-8 years.

You don't read other posts I and others chose to write on other sites (social networking) so you can't really judge us as you can't see everything!

Not everyone chooses to write everything they think or of feel on here.

I didn't know she had punched a female fan at one of her gigs. It was shown on one of the news channels just now, and it wasn't a single blow either, she repeatedly punched this fan several times with a look of pure hatred on her face.

I remember when Cantona launched into a fan and he was rightly condemned for it (and banned from football for 8 months).

What she did to a paying member of the audience was outragious and I don't think her 'troubled' mind can be used as a defence. My already low estimation of her has just dropped to a rating of 'really dont give a shit'.

This thread seems to sum the forums up on here. It always seems to be the same people who post the opposite _iew to the majority, just to get a reaction.

The same could be said about your opinion.

Loved Amy's music, a talent wasted, let's hope she is in a place of peace, her choices weren't always perfect, but who's are? RIP
