if you google your question, you'll find a BBC website article on it that is fascinating.

I would imagine something like yacht varnish over base black ....
That's what I would use on an exterior door .....
If I wanted to same finish indoor I'd probably use piano paint ..... |

Polyester coatings on pianos are a right pain to apply. Takes about 3 days to do a proper job on a grand. |

The door is bomb proof and made of steel with a healthy application of black gloss. The bomb proof effectiveness was explained and demonstrated after an Ira mortar attack in the 80's. It's a top notch door |
