Why do they always go wrong just before a mot ( probably just mine) grrr engine light on don't know what that means. The air blowing things stopped working ages ago. Don't know if that's connected. But so annoying. Still drives tho? Last time I went to the garage about a funny noise i was told it was just the engine lol so don't wanna go for something stupid again |

"You can get a code reader on eBay for a few quid and a mobile phone app for free to clear the light on the dash and read the error."
Oh really. Do you have any advice to make sure i get right things lol please |

Make sure you buy the one for your car! There's a lot of different ones, you could just go to a garage and ask them nicely. Other than that there are tricks sometimes to read out the code if you can get it to flash it by holding a control when turning the ignition on. Look on the internet for your car, my experience it's an abs sensor or emissions sensor but that doesn't mean it's the same for yours!
Good luck!

If you get a blur tooth obd2 code reader, you can get an app for a smartphone to read the codes. You will need to Google where the port is to plug in, it's usually hidden away somewhere. You could use an app like Torque Lite, but if you can find one designed for your car, they are generally more reliable. |

What car isit?
You can get a generic code reader off eBay that will read most cars for 17.99 delivered. I'll inbox you the link if you want.
If you do take it to a garage, don't act like you don't know anything about cars. Most will rinse you if they think that. Pop into a garage and ask them if they can read and clear the code for you. Say your husband normally does it but he's away until Monday. |

What colour isit and what is the symbol? There shouldn't be any lights on the dash if your driving it. The only light that will be on if the engine is on and the handbrake is up is a red circle light |

Half the time it could just be a faulty sensor making your engine light come on, if the car is driving just as well as before then I wouldn't worry about it. The fans could just be a fuse, what car do you have btw x |

I have a code reader that does all OBD protocols and can clear the codes too. You need to be careful of the cheap bluetooth adapters that can be found on ebay as, while they claim to cover all codes, they actuallt only do 3.
Fab showing you as being within 30 miles of me. I could possibly read your code for you (depending on where you are) though depends how urgent as I wouldn't be able to do so before Monday afternoon |

I know a fair bit about On board diag as I did a fair amount of research on it when I first got my car (14 years ago) as yanks have had such systems for donkeys years. 96 was the first year for OBD2. EOBD came in for petrol in 2001 & diseasel in 2003 |

A French car with electrical problems! Who'd have guessed.
I know a guy who might be willing to torch it for a few quid.

The dreaded Citroen eh, I have a C4 and the electrics are rubbish. If your car driving fine then don't worry about the engine warning light, if it was a genuine problem the car would go into limp mode and you'd feel a drastic loss of power. As for the fans, mine went on me the other week, I changed the control module, did nothing, then changed the resistor pack which did nothing and I had the motor tested which was fine. It turned out to be a fault in a chip under the main fuse box which had gone. They wanted 300 for a whole new fuse board but I paid 60 quid to an auto electrician why bypassed it and it works fine now.
Do the fans not work in any speed? Or does it work on the fastest setting only? |

If you read her post again you'll understand why she's worried about it -it's a MoT failure |

Yes I know that thanks, I asked the question for a reason. If the fans work on the fastest setting then the problem will be the resistor pack which is a cheap and easy fix. |

I think you'll find it isn't a failure. My last car had the same light on for 3 years worth of mots and it didn't fail once. |

Engine light will be on as the car will have a fault, clearing the light won't fix it,might be a lambor sensor in that case probably won't pass an emissions test on the mot but light on is an advise on the mot |

Thanks for comments. The fans don't work at all. They used to. Just stopped blowing any air hot or cold.
I am worried about a mot fail cos depending on what the problem is i don't know how quick i can fix it. The light have gone off today but the oil lights go funny maybe it needs oil will try that lol |

See my post above about your fans, don't pay for a new fuse board because it can be bypassed for a fraction of the cost. Be careful topping the oil up too, check the dipstick first, putting too much oil in will cause as much damage as not enough. |

That happened to my car and I ignored it for a few days .. the car drove perfectly well ... took it to my local mechanic it had virtually no oil in ... luckily he managed to sort it and I got my hands slapped .. |
