With all this big, national and multi national businesses. People are just numbers to them and if they don't produce mahoosive profits they are dispensible.
Small businesses, on the other hand, have a better record of caring for their empoyees and trying to keep them in jobs wherever possible.
What about some ways to help small businesses start and/or survive? |

I don't look after my staff, I make her work 8.30 to 5.30, no lunch hour, no time allowed off for being ill. No pay rise for 5 years, holidays are kept to a minimum and even then has to be on call. No Christmas bonus, no company dinner, no share issues.
I don't know why she stays with me |

probably has something to do with you being a nice person and her trusting you.
i worked for the same company for 11 years. i knew i could have walked out and added another 10 grand on my salary without even trying that much.
but it's rare you find an employer where the trust is mutual and i knew if i left the chances are i would become yet another number.
i am self employed now but the business is till tied in with my old boss's activities and we still look out for each other

Altho i use the big supermarkets, as they do give great bargains, i have recently started to shop again at our local village suppliers, but my god some of the prices are unreal, think i'll stay with the supermarkets for now, and yes this is why the village suppliers hike up there prices, which again aint sensible |

We are fortunate in Medway as we have a large ethnic population and their shops have very competitive pricing and the goods are frequently better quality than supermarkets. |

When we had to shut our family business down (after over 60 years trading), telling my staff was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, 16 employees, out of which 6 had been there over twenty five years, and the lataest had been there four years (must have looked after them too well!!)but it was the banks running scared after the initial down turn/reccession, bloody chickens, after all the money they had made out of us you think there might have been some loyalty, NOPE.
Not bitter, honest!!! |
