Oh jeez, that's sad.
He was the first "action man" on kids tv, doing all the outdoorsy stuff, canoeing, climbing, getting trod on by an elephant... kinda got a real thirst for adventure from watching him.
RIP dude. |

"Sad news . The Blue Peter team of John Noakes, Valerie Singleton and Peter Purvis were a big part of my childhood tv watching."
Aww, this was 'my' Blue Peter team growing up too. I loved how he always seemed to be the 'naughty boy' in that group, sniggering and corpsing while the other two kept a straight face. |

"Sad news. He was my favourite when I was wee. My first vaguely coherent, and much repeated sentence was 'get down shep'. "
You still have your very own 'Shep' |

"Just watched a short video of him climbing Nelson's column ! Terrifying ! Gutsy guy."
Could you imagine one of today's presenters doing that, especially the last bit with the ladder facing backwards and no safety rope....Man was a true legend. |

Absolutely no chance of any presenter today even being let near something like that.
T.V. from a different era.
A brave man and a huge character.
RIP John. |
