I'm fucking fed up and sick to death of seeing faces and knecks covered in tattoos! It's fucking ridiculous. Call it originality and freedom and expression and all that bullshit but in reality look at the bigger and long term effects!!!!
It's highly unlikely you'll get a job in a highly skilled profession with trear drop tattoos down your face or lizard popping up your kneck. Instead it's the rest of us who will foot the bill whilst you moan at how there are no jobs!
It's self abuse!!!!!! Right rant over lmao it infuriates me people getting face tattoos but It infuriates me more that tattoo, 'artists' can do it legally.

If the individuals stop being so inconsiderate then how will society change? I work in a huge organisation and see many people with visible tattoos and/or piercings and they are every bit as accepted as anyone else.
Perhaps it's just you and not society that needs to change?

If you're highly skilled in an applicable and appropriate way then any cosmetic adornments will make little difference to your getting the job. |

People know that working in hospitality etc etc office work etc etc facial tattoos are not appropriate. It's the rest of us who will foot the bill whilst they seek, 'appropriate employment'. |

My employer is more than happy with my work! Has no issues with my tattoos because he realises I'm a damn fine employee who's damn good at his job.
He doesn't judge me on my hands being tattoos, arms showing no visible skin. Nor will he have a problem when my neck is fully inked.
I feel sorry for you, trapped in that small little mind of yours unable to look at people for who they are, not what they look like.

i know plenty folk with tatts and mods that pull down above average money.it might not be in some office or retail job (even retail now actually...seems you need to look 'alt' to even get a chance of working in cex) but there are plenty of sectors out there who employ folk regardless.
my mates husband is a punk, hair tatts, clothes..he's an aircraft engineer.
friend of mine, tatts on hands and neck works on a supermarket shop floor full time, happy in his work, what's up with that? perfectly good job.
a couple of years ago i stopped a guy walking through a no public access route at the back of fairlee farm at the isle of wight festival, properly tatted, hands, neck, punk looking hair, looked a bit like he might smell...on stopping him he pulled out his i.d, turns out he was police. teach me to be so judgemantal! i also know some who don't work, same as there are un modified people who don't/can't get jobs. the world is becoming more and more accepting of it in my view. and all the better for it. why should we all fit inside certain expectations? the world would become so much less interesting i think. |

Strikes me OP that your rant isn't actually about tattoos per se, more about people who are on the dole (or whatever it's called these days) and have tattoos, and are drawing the (incorrect) conclusion that the two are somehow connected.
If so I'd suggest that's far from the case, and you're completely wide of the mark. Sure there are some employers that would baulk at hiring someone with very visible tattoos or piercings, but there are plenty that don't. The reasons 'some' people are seemingly unemployable go far deeper than the ink on their skin or the adornments in their ears and other body parts and that is a whole other debate entirely. |

No, I'm not wrong, I work in a "professional" job and see people from all walks of life holding down successful careers. The people they work with see them as individuals and recognise them for what they do and not what they look like.
There are many people that have no intention of ever working that the tax payer supports, the vast majority of which won't have facial tattoos or piercings so why pick on these? |

I have tattoos, yet have managed to excel in a professional, customer facing career for almost 30 years. And nobody has ever judged me for them either.
I would much rather encounter a polite, intelligent, open-minded pierced/tattooed individual than a clear skinned judgemental narrow-minded prick any day.

Having tattoos does not effect anyone's career. I have tats up my arms. On my hand. Various different places and I'm quite far up in the company I work for, plus I work with customers face to face on a daily basis. Your point is invalid and this pot is ridiculous. I work for a huge company and loads of the guys I work with have tattoos all over.
Mine are on show when I've sat having breakfast meetings with the uk director and European director. Nobody bats an eyelid. In fact they're sometimes a bit of a point of interest for people.

Personally a discrete one on a lady is fine by me but like previous poster wouldn't want to see doctor with any on display. |

I've got a tattoo on my leg that's not generally visible, it's for my own satisfaction rather than anyone else's. It certainly doesn't effect my job or employability.
I can certainly understand why an employer would probably not give a job to someone with a spiders web on their face, though in reality, there's no reason why Spider-Man isn't the best candidate. |

Lots of people work in highly skilled professions where visible tattoos are perfectly acceptable. Highly skilled doesn't just mean professional white collar occupations, though I know several professionals who have extensive ink. Think of the tattoo artists themselves, for example. No one seemed offended by any of the ink on the highly skilled burlesque performer I saw yesterday either.
And have you any idea how much decent ink costs? I was at The Great British Tattoo Show this weekend and there was some stunning work on display that cost a fortune, not the sort of stuff easily funded by benefits. |

The problem is that, as an employer, I'd think that someone who had decided that having a tattoo on their face was a good idea probably hasn't got got the best decision-making process.

For a start, the taboo with tattoos is well gone. They are no longer associated with criminals and the seedier side of life.
Kids will happily walk around with a spider web on their elbow, a full body sleeve over their chest and arms of dragons, or have a bunch of nautical stars.
Go and have a look at any blue chip top of the league companies IT department.
They are covered in em, so are a lot of call centre staff. If your not public facing, no one gives a shit what you look like. They look at your performance.
There are a few guys with facial, neck and hand tattoos I specify I want on certain jobs. Because they are well known and relied on in their field. I know one girl who's even got a tat on the white of her eye!
Now I might not put the guy with Maori tattooing on half his face in a suit front of house.... but I might, because he's got a fantastic build and manner and looks fucking impressive in a suit. The welcoming grin and sparkle of pure personality and warmth over comes the tattoo thing.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of face tattoos, for the reasons stated by OP. Neck tattoos I don't mind as they can be covered, but surely if someone has either done, they would likely take it all into account beforehand? Some don't of course, but when I got my arm done, I took into account I'd need to wear long sleeve shirts, for example.
Each to their own, I love seeing good tattoos.

Face and/ or neck tattoos do still make me a bit wary of the person. Probably because back in the olden days when I were a lass, the sorts of men with those tatts were nasty types that would smash your face in just for looking at them.
(Women didn't have tatts in those days!)
But I know people with face/ neck tatts and they are lovely- no idea why I can't shake the wary feeling.
I've been in hospitals a few times the last few weeks and seen a fair few male and female medical staff with visible tatts. Even lower arms and hands. Even middle aged people!! Makes me smile every time I see them. I like that society is changing to become more tolerant. |

I have to say I dislike facial tattoos and often question the employability of those with scorpions on their face but as a lot have mentioned, some very professional and respectable people have visible tattoos these days.
To say your tattoos tops you from getting work is an untruth. It might stop you from getting the work you want but then that was your choice when you got a tattoo.
Should society change to be all embracing of people's lifestyle choices? Perhaps. Should people challenge the status quo? Definitely.
The op is well within his rights to gave his 'rant' but to suggest that upstanding mom inked people are paying the price for those with tattoos is a grave inaccuracy. |

Whilst visible tattoos are more acceptable in the UK than they used to be in some countries of the world they may result in problems or even imprisonment.
In Japan for instance you could be turned away from public swimming pools, bath houses, gyms and even some hotels. It is not uncommon for restaurants and shops to turn away customers with visible tattoos.
Permanent tattoos are actually forbidden among Sunni Muslims, as many believe that tattooing changes God’s creation and is therefore a sin.
In 2014, a British tourist was arrested and deported from Sri Lanka because of her tattoo.
In North Korea, tattoos must carry praise of the Kim family or carry a teaching of the state.
Since 1966, Danes have been forbidden from getting their face, head, neck, or hands tattooed.
United Arab Emirates Tattoo laws mean visible tattoos usually have to be covered in public
Many other countries have restrictions on some designs of tattoo often due to religious or political sensitivity
You may feel it is a matter of personal choice but if you are trying to get a job with a company which trades with countries more sensitive than the UK you could very easily be turned down because of your visible tattoos.

Well, he did make a few uninformed statements based on little more than his own opinion and in a very passionate way.
I welcome his opinion and the opportunity to challenge it. Maybe my response could have been more measured, but to be fair, it was more measured than his original post.

Just believe certain professions require people to "look" professional and for me that's not having a doctor who's face is covered in tattoos.
You may think this is slightly ridiculous but would there be a problem if you went to the doctor and you found them dressed only in swimming wear and flip flops? |
