So, a little help please
I love listening to classical music when i hear it in movies, ads or whatever but unfortunately i never know the names of the pieces or which composer etc when i attempt to look them up.
So, can you name some popular pieces for me to enjoy?
Thanks in advance

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
You'll probably recognise most of Beethovens 5th and 6th symponies, as well as Holsts The Planets and Vivaldis Four Seasons. Mozarts Marriage of Figaro Overture is used a lot in films, and Pachelbels Canon and Fugue was used in adverts. |

Hi OP, you can actually purchase or find on YouTube or Spotify playlists of classical music that come from movies/adverts -- it's quite a good way to scan through and identify the ones that appeal to you.
Elgar Cello Concerto in E Minor, Op 85
Joaquín Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez: II Adagio
Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43
Barber Adagio for Strings, Op 11a
Chopin Nocturnes, Op 9, No 2 in E Flat Major
Tchaikovsky Sleeping Beauty, Op 66, Act 1, No 6 Waltz
Dvorák Rusalka, Op 114, Song to the Moon
Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue
Canteloube Chants d'Auvergne
Michael Nyman's score for the movie The Piano
Just a selection I'd recommend but I could witter on with more! In fact, I'll start kicking myself for leaving ones off as soon as I post! |

If you have shazam on your phone you can source which song is playing. It quite often offers similar listening |

This! I could reel off a list of composers and music (baroque is a wonderful period to look at) but there's little point. It's such a personal thing and you find out more about what you like by listening to many. |

Some people might think it sacrilegious that I’m not a fan of the likes of
Shostakovich
Prokofiev
Mahler
Beethoven
Tchaikovsky
Wagner
etc
But I love the likes of…
Straus
Puccini
Bach
Rossini
Mozart
Pachelbel
and many-many more

Hamburger Hill, intro. Church music can be quite soothing too. Check out Black Robe, some very dark tunes in that. Or even Porky's Revenge, one or two good beats. |
