I unfortunately got badly sunburnt yesterday.... chest, shoulders and arms. I am in agony.
I've used the usual aftersun creams, a ton of aloe vera gel, cold showers etc, but it's so damn painful. Anyone have any particular, magical cures that work pleeeeeaaasssseee!
Before you all tell me off; I did use Sun cream, but it was obviously not a high enough factor and I didn't apply enough. #Lesson learned! |

If you can, take ibuprofen. (Not asthmatic, not stomach problems). It's an anti inflammatory. Also take regular paracetamol to keep your temperature down.
Rehydration sachets like dioralyte are very good, and slap on calamine aqueous cream. Not calamine lotion as it dries out the skin.
Hope you feel better soon

I've already found the towels soothing, I'm drinking lots of water, but evidently not enough because I am still thirsty and I have just taken a paracetamol (don't tolerate Ibruprofen well) when I have removed the towels, I'm going to slap loads more moisturiser and aloe vera on. Grrrrrr - wrecked my bank hol weekend! |

Poor you- I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago- my sin is still flaking/peeling!
I got through two full bottles of Ladival DNA Repair After Sun- it is cooling, soothing, and moisturising, quickly absorbed and non greasy as it is a gel. It also eases taut skin and is anti redness, and helps prevent premature skin ageing. It was the ONLY thing that worked, and I swear by aloe vera from the plant usually, but that couldn't touch my sunburn- this Ladival stuff was so soothing. Instantly took the heat out of my skin.
They currently have it half price on the ASDA website at £7 for 200ml. HTH x |

That is fabulous timing as I am just popping to Asda. I will look out for that, thank you so much. |

If you turn a thin cotton t-shirt inside out and cover it in the same after-sun lotions it means nothing is rubbing off.. sleeping in it too means it'll stay on over night, not ruining your bed or soaking into your sheets/towel. Give it a good shake to clear off the fibres first |

Keep with the towels, keep it cool don't put oil based creams on it,most of all keep the blankets off it when you go to bed they will generate heat and make it painful, |

There is something called Soleve which is a moisturising lotion with ibuprofen in - don't know if you are ok applying it topically as only a small amount absorbed - it's especially designed for sunburn xx |

"Strangly, you might start to feel really cold and shiver as the body tries to cool itself down. Just be prepared."
Yep, that and the headache has already kicked in....hot with cold shivers is not pleasant! I'm drinking loads of water, taken paracetamol and the cool towels are helping tons as is the aloe vera and the DNA cream from Asda that one lovely person suggested.
Gradually getting a little better.
Thank you guys and girls - you have proved invaluable. X |

A kindly old gent told me recently in specsavers that if burnt then rubbing fresh lemon on it eases the pain...
If it doesn't then pour a stiff gin n tonic and put the rest of the lemon in it for pain relieving purposes.

"That sounds more like heat stroke than sun burn
Everyone needs to be so careful. It's hard though when the weather goes from nothing to full heatwave. Takes everyone by surprise."
My workplace is awful in the recent heat. We have mobile aircon units but the temp has been over 30 right next to the aircon. I have an active job. Sickness and headaches are all included in a days work for staff and clients ! |

Firstly unless it's severe heatstroke don't go to A&E with sunburn as someone suggested that's ridiculous.
But monitor your symptoms regarding heatstroke.
As said keep drinking water and maybe try some rehydration powder.
Calamine lotion always seems to help cool it.
Stay out of the sun.
Wear let a loose fitting shirt or long sleeves.

Thank you all. I'm feeling a lot better today.
I have rehydrated well with loads of water and I took another paracetamol before going to bed (early)
I think the headache was because I was badly dehydrated. I kept on with the cold towels and flannels which helped loads and I kept cool and kept applying aloe vera gel and the cream from Asda. Thankfully the shivers have now stopped and the skin isn't stinging as much.
Your advice and help was great, thank you all so much.x |

Stay out of the midday sun or cover up!
Build up more of a tan in the earlier part of the year while the sun has less power, if your still pale by may your too late and it will frazzle you! |
