If they continuously gulp at the surface of the water does it mean there isn't a lot of oxygen in the water?
Bit worried about them. Don't know how to fix the pump and my dad is away for the weekend! |

It may be that yes, you can temporarily buy 'oxygen tablets' from any good aquatic shop in the meantime but you'll probably also need to buy a new airpump if it's died, it's happened to me twice over the years and both times I had to get a new one xx |

It could be or more likely there are high levels of ammonia or nitrites in the water. Suggest doing a large change of water if you can't fix/replace the filter. ASAP as they won't survive long like that. |

Absolutely this!
Remove a third to half the tank water, and replace with fresh (dechlorinised/treated) tap water! I've kept fish over 20 years!
You could buy water quality testing kits to discover the root of the problem, or take a sample of your tank water into an aquatic shop where they will do this for you free of charge usually and advise you on the best course of action. I hope you dont lose any fish! x |
