Can there be one?
Went to my cousins husbands funeral yesterday. His wish at the end was to have played Bill Haley's 'Rock around the clock'
A little while in one person started clapping, the next thing people started joining in. At the end a huge round of applause went up.
The vicar had a smile on his face and said he was surprised people hadn't started dancing. Seemed such a fitting end to his life.

I fully agree, when my aunt and uncle died neither of them being religious, both had what is called a Humanist service and they where both more like celebrations of their lives, with no mention of god etc. Didn't leave you feeling half as bad as a "normal" funeral would. With my aunt's is was a blazing hot day and we went back to her home which had a big garden, the children where all in the pool and the adults enjoyed a barbeque and a beer, everone agreed my aunt would have been thrilled with this.  |

my uncles in Ireland was a good one - he was late for it. The hearse was stuck behind a cement mixer on single track road for 20 mins - everyone agreed he would have been pissing himself laughing since he drove one and had been killed by it.
It was followed by a typical irish wake- good bevvy and knees up |

I have to admit that I have always been a funeral avoider. Only ever been to two in my life. They are so very formal and sad.
Myself I am in no way in a hurry but quite exited about moving on cos I want to see what's next and I am happy with my life and what I am. |

Sadly steve's uncle died on manday afternoon, but we have since found out that the theme for his funeral is country and western,
can't waite tommy will be pissing himself laughing if there is a heaven and he will be looking down on us all.

I've always been brought up to believe a funeral isn't a mourning, its a celebration. And this is something that is reflected in all family funerals. My gran was cremated, and we had a traditional wake at her local social club. Alcohol and food flowing, with lots of stories and pictures of her life. There was not a dry eye in the house, through laughter not tears.
I recently went to a friends funeral, he was the same age as me, and an ex squaddie. His funeral was the same, his dad led the service, as it was suicide, and the vicar wouldn't lead it. His Dad told lots of stories about the trouble we all got up to when we were young. Again lots of laughter.
Funerals needn't be sad. If mine is sad, I'm gonna come back and haunt everyone!! |

Nope I've been totally distraught at every one I've ever been to. I wish, as a matter of course, there could be a funeral then a thanksgiving ceremony a few weeks or months on after you're over the initial shock of the loss and have started to think of it in a different way.
Grief is a unique emotion and nobody really knows how others are going to react. Some party, some mourn and are inconsolable. I think funerals are awful events, personally. No matter how the other mourners are behaving. I don't know how any of my loved ones 'would have wanted it'. I suspect not many of us discuss our own demise. |
