There's a Prep drug smiler to the ones that treat the effects of or if you think you might have been infected.

But it's a preemptive thing.

That's kind of cool. I think that would be worth buying if you were going to say, date vigorously or partner swap. so you wouldn't just be relying on a rubber.

This has been around for quite some time. NHS Scotland has agreed to provide it, unlike the rest of the UK which is happier for more people to become needlessly infected - and likely then others too.

It's available in other countries but we're backwards here.

I thought it was a really good programme showing the picture here and in South Africa. The treatment has come a long way in 30years.

The NHS couldn't fund it at £20 million pa

"There's a Prep drug smiler to the ones that treat the effects of or if you think you might have been infected.

It's called "post exposure prophylaxis".

Basically those who fear they've been exposed to HIV infection can obtain a course of anti retroviral drugs ordinarily reserved for people already HIV positive (taken to suppress the virus from causing immune system damage and developing into AIDS).

The emergency prophylaxis course taken within 24-72 hours after exposure is done to stop the initial HIV virus taking root and developing into a long standing HIV infection. The course of drugs is taken for 4 weeks.

The best protection is always safe sex though.

If it's about money, the cost of treating people who become infected is far higher than prophylactic treatment. It's another facet of this government not wanting to fund the NHS properly.

There's one now you can take as a precaution. As in before the potential exposure. Really you would think they would make it available to doctors, nurses, police and prison service who at work are at risk of exposure.

You're talking about "prep"?

Prep is basically HIV drugs taken in a similar manner to birth control pills to prevent HIV. It isn't a new drug , it's basically existing hiv drugs repurposed and taken as prophylaxis.
