Does anyone feel 'uncomfortable' when staying in small guesthouses (less than 3 rooms) ?
When booking nights or weekends away, I always tend to go for bigger places because I like the anonymity that the larger establishments provide.
I like to be able to slip in and out unnoticed (phnarr phnarr) and without the need for polite conversation.
Whenever I have stayed in a small guest house I have always felt as if I was
staying in the home of someone I didn't know and never really got 'settled' |

Never really thought about it, but can't say it bothers me too much.
My first experiences of being away from home was at a small guest house with 2 old dears who treated me like a king.
I only have good memories |

finding big guesthouses, are really hard to find, the reason for this is that if the guesthouse has 3 or less rooms to let, you do not have to register it as a buisness. over 3 rooms, it has to be registered as a buisness |

I've never really thought about it but if i intend to have some fun while away i would pick a bigger place. I have had some nice small places though while working up in Scotland. I think if its small it all depends on who is running it. |

On a swinging level, I much prefer the bigger anonymous hotels.
However, when staying somewhere on holiday, I prefer little guest houses and B&B's. Well if I'm staying in the UK anyway. Kinda adds to the whole British seaside holiday experience!!! |

Further to this comment, once you get to a "business" status, other regulations like Fire Safety, Environmental Health and H&S compliance kick in; something like over 6000 official regulations will apply before you even get your first guest in through the front door!
Small B&B's, Guest Houses etc can be superb, though there are duff ones too! |
