Curb Your Enthusiasm. Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned.
The Larry Sanders Show.
This was an amazing show, a lot of parallels with our own Alan Partridge, if you're a fan of that type of character. Viciously funny with cameos every episode from famous actors/comedians from that era. The beeb effed it up when they showed it in the 90's, always shifting it about in the schedule. Jeffrey Tambour is amazing in it, his character hank is just one of the greatest comic creations.

Roseanne is coming back (John Goodman is reprising his role as Dan too!) .. apparently she'll be running a medical marijuana store in the new EPs.. discounting the dreadful last season that jumped the figurative shark, it's definitely up there.
Will and grace.. another revival imminent.
Cybill (it was quirky and there was good chemistry between the cast)..
Friends.. fantastic writing.
Curb your enthusiasm.. not so much comical as cringey.(cunt carwash still makes me chortle)
So many good uns. |

"
American satire is pish... the end "
I'm going to have to disagree with you there. One of the all time great works of satire is created in America.
A work of art that is studied (genuinely) in colleges and which extrapolates complex issues into humourous and simple allegories...
South Park (1997-), Stone, M., Parker, T., et al. |

Forgot to mention..
A show by the creators of friends that preceded it - "dream on" is also hilarious but in a much overtly adult way .
Not technically a "sitcom" as there's no canned laughter or studio audience but very wryly funny . |

Yes! Trey Parker and Matt stone are huge python fans though .. so not necessarily satire spawned from American culture.. but it's probably the most acerbic satire on TV. |

Taxi! With Danny DeVito ,Andy Kaufman and Christopher Lloyd.. discovered through reruns.
Think it's from the late 70s early 80s?
Funny, pathos - great cast.
classic theme.. https://youtu.be/zuPZ4NaRiv4

American satire is obvious* comedy and to compare it with the original and unique monty python is tantamount to sacrilege
*correction "
Meh. I don't care for the attitude that our humour is so bloody superior to theirs. |

I still think that's claiming superiority. Plus why is it that something is obvious, it's not funny? What's wrong with obvious? |

There's plenty of wit in American TV shows, but I suppose it's hard to find it if your mind is closed of to it.
And I never said I liked the 'obvious' shows. |

"None, they are all shocking, sorry just my opinion, cant stand canned laughter, says to me that if you have to add laughter, its just not funny??"
Depends on the show. I really enjoy Brooklyn 99, The Goldbergs and Blackish none of which have laughter tracks.
In fact most people's blanket dislike of US comedy is based on a type of show they stopped making (or we stopped buying) 20 years ago. |

There and to the left a bit |
Another vote for Frasier here, possibly one of the most finely observed sitcoms ever. It's forerunner Cheers is always worth a watch too.
Honourable mentions for:
Roseanne
Soap
Happy Days
Ellen
Kate & Allie |

Good lord, so much generalisation in this thread "all have canned laughter", "all are obvious and unfunny".
You clearly haven't looked beyond the shite ones that E4 buy. |

Most modern american sitcoms dont have canned laughter :S
Parks and rec is my favourite so far. Ron Swanson arguably one of the best characters in a TV show ![](/icons/s/razz.gif) |

"Just remembered another...
Married With Children
I had a bit of a thing for Peggy. "
Kate sagal is great. That red bouffant was some sight.
Christina Applegate as the metaler cheerleader too. Classic?. |

"My guilty pleasure.... Will and Grace,,
Isn't that coming back?
I don't know any recent good US comedies "
Yes, it's been recommissioned for something like 8-10 eps. Possibly more depending how the initial short run goes.
Same with Roseanne a all the cast are reuniting for a similar run of EPs, possibly more like will and grace depending on audience response and ratings. |
