"We had a few tree swings that were great. One was out over a stream."
Snap... One of our neighbors had one over a sea cliff... When I think now of the amount of time I swung out off it and into the water I wonder how I'm still alive!!! |

Used to love hopscotch and skipping. Lots of us used to have this big piece of old washing line that we used to use instead of rope. And we'd all play in front of our house on the road. Couldn't do that now, too much traffic. X |

"I always liked roundabouts, We used to place items underneath them and try and pick them up as it was spinning "
We had none near us... Was a real novelty if we were away camping and the local playground had a roundabout. |

"building bases in bushes.. sweeping the 'floor' with branches.. using boxes as furniture etc x "
Did this too in the summer... Ferns around us used to grow so high we could create hidden tunnel networks and hideouts under their leafy canopy... Good times |

"Reading, was and still am a nerd.
Night reading was my thing... Used to read to my younger siblings Ladybird books to the younger ones, Enid Blyton to the older one "
My biggest pleasure was reading my cousins' Chronicles of Narnia - a bit too subversive for my parents liking. |

"Playing horses - jumps were built out of bamboo canes and olympic medals were won in the back garden! "
I was very naughty... I used to sneak into neighbour's fields and ride their ponies when nobody was looking... No tack... Just a fistful of mane and my legs for control... |

There and to the left a bit |
Was lucky enough to grow up with both woods and playing fields (with open countryside beyond) in easy walking distance so many a happy day was spent going on adventures round either.
Also had a garden big enough for a climbing frame, rope bridge between two trees and a swing made from rope and an old tyre.
Used to do the showjumping thing with bamboo canes and flowerpots too!!
Then there was 'It' (tig/tag etc), kiss chase and various football related games (3 and in, Wembley, spot!!)
Oh happy days!! |
