little house on the praire

I believe there are a lot of strong women on here. But my question to you is what do you think has made you strong. The fact that women can now have freedom of speech and no longer have to be surpressed., lifes experiences, experiences have made you the strong character that you are. Or do you think that you where biologically programmed to be a strong women.

For me its a combination of the last two, as you get older you have had more things to contend with which hardens you up. But i believe i was programmed this way. I think i would of been an Emily Pankhurst. The reason i didnt do well at school is because i never took the teachers word for things, i was always questioning everything and ended up rebelling

I think there are some fantastic role models for women on here..

strong, independent, honest, sincere, they take ownership & are accountable, confident, self deprecating, humble, candid & intelligent ..

they have my utmost respect.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Having to live through 2 long term relationships with guys who turned out to be cocklodgers and arseholes. Being single and independant has given me the strength to play on this site alone and not take (much) aggro. I certainly know what i want more these days.

Women have always been strong. I think we are just more aware of it nowadays.

Also there is a fine line between being strong and being cold and hard. Sometimes I feel we may have crossed too far.

I think if i hadnt been "strong" willed , i wouldnt have managed thus far...

Paid my own way in life, bought my son up without any help and worked hard.

Didnt ask for any help or handouts.

Through life we are constantly being tested and that in its self makes for stronger human beings .

I had a very good role model in my late Mother, she was widowed in tragic circumstances when my Father was mortally wounded overseas and brought me up single handed with the help of my older brother.

Her dedication and working Two jobs just to ensure I was fed, clothed and put through education inspired me no end and made me a very strong woman myself.

I always got the impression my mother stayed with my father as she wasn't strong enough to make it on her own. I dropped out of uni to marry my husband.

When my daughter was born it dawned on me if my husband left we'd struggle, so I went back to uni and never looked back.

I raised my daughters to be independent and they are! When my marriage broke down I left, even though I'd lost most of my sight and there was no guarantee it would return.

I bought my own home and set about looking after myself and my children.

Sadly I lost a few friends along the way as we would moan and bitch about our husbands but I was the only one that left and we had drifted apart no one else involved. My friends were cheated on right, left and centre but remain, with the help of antidepressants.

I used to be a timid little mouse at school and wouldn't stand up for myself. In my first job I suffered sexual harrassment which I never told my parents about. It went on for a long time until one day I snapped and I dealt with it legally and the guy (a solicitor actually) was found guilty and dismissed.

I left that job and moved to a role which was challenging and faced abuse from clients constantly. Then I worked in a role which was mainly male orientated so had no choice but to sink or swim.

Not sure if I'm a strong woman but I am not afraid to challenge and be heard.

Wendy Murdoch clouts the attacker of her husband and the female MP instantly stands to her feet.

tells you something.

Life and all it's experiences may bring me to my knees, but I get back up eventually and refuse to remain bowed down. That makes me either stupid or strong, either way it has worked well over the years for myself and my children.

I think women can become incredibly strong by having a split workout routine spread over 5 to 6 days alternating high reps/low load with low reps/high load training and having two interval days for cardiac activity.

I like a bed partner I can wrestle a little with...

I was surrounded by strong women growing up, Jamaican women dominate the household and hold families together. Grandmothers and Aunts become almost as important as mothers.

I think i am a fairly strong woman. Not to go into too many details... brief high(low) lights include a failed marriage to a guy who wanted to kill me, a sexual assault from 2 guys who were then found not proven (dontcha love scotland) when i was 15, a stillbirth, a termination where i had to make the choice do it or end up both may end up dead...

What doesnt kill us makes us stronger.... I'll vouch for that!

If I were not sent to attend boarding school and then onwards to uni in this country, I would probably be married and have kids, living somewhere in the Far East and be a good wifey to some oriental gent.

Rather than an opinionated, outspoken, and free spirited person that I am today!

I had 4 fantastic grandparents who influence almost every part of my morality. I miss them so much it makes me ache.

think being one of 8 children started me off and me mam encouraged me to take advantage of opportunities she never had.

Strong for me means being capable and having the confidence to be what you can be.
