Queen in the Freddie days, ultimate showman, could hit almost any note and the amazing musicians in the rest of the band.
Van Morrison - great lyricist and sings withe such emotion and conviction
cant think of a third, wel i can but thers a few and cannot decide, its like i said on the other thread, its all subjective and down to personal taste

Bob Dylan, songwriter, singer, musician with a unique talent. No one has been like him.
Bob Marley, changed peoples way of thinking through music in a happy way.
Elvis, for the pure deep velvet versatility of his voice, again there is not another like him.
Although the above are only occasional listening for me at the moment. |

"How do you define a music legend?
Mozart perhaps?"
Same rules apply though dont they, its all down to peronal choice, when it comes to so called classical music i like Beethoven, Bach and Lizt, with a bit of Chopin for good measure but no so kene on Mozart,

Bob Marley
Marc Bolan
Nina Simone
Marc Bolan for helping me understand I didn't have to wear Levis and a sweat shirt, individuality is cool
Bob Marley... just brings joy when i listen.
Nina Simone.. comes from a time that I shudder at the thought of.... she and others having to use different entrances from White people. |

Pink Floyd...
For the many happy hours we have spent either at concerts of just chillin at home with them. Plus had the chance, by chance to meet Dave Gilmour and Nick Mason, backstage when they did the Knebworth concert back in 75!
Queen...
Long hot summer of 76! Driving around the Hertfordshire countryside. Already a big fan, just made the dream better! And Freddie Mercury, fab guy and his feeling in his singing still brings a lump to my throat!
The Beatles...
There were so many other bands to choose from, but I had to go with the Beatles because of the memories I have of that time. Friends and lovers that I miss to this day.
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Makes me choke when I try to sing along... Quite Magical |

Be Bop Deluxe
Orange Juice"
Be Bop Deluxe! Bill Nelson, one of the most underrated guitarists. Man could he make that guitar sing! Crying to the Sky on Sunburst Finish... Tried it many times but never sounds as good... Sigh |

Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Legend ?
Musical influence - most definately
Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Isaac Hayes and Aretha Franklin, have identified her or, more particularly, her singing, guitar playing and showmanship as an important influence on them.
Little Richard referred her as his favorite singer when he was a child.
Johnny Cash also referred to Tharpe as his favorite singer when he was a child when he gave his induction speech at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
One of my most watched youtube clips

Part of a Granada TV special as far as I am aware. |

I could make an endless list but...
Prince - Such a dirty little bastard and an absolute genius. His star has faded somewhat in recent years but he owned the 80's and 90's for me.
Bob Marley - Obviously he is another genius. But he reminds me of the four years I spent in Birmingham as a child in the 70's. Proper Rasta dudes were everywhere with ghetto blasters and those woolly stripey Africa Rasta hats you just don't see anymore. In my mind it is perpetually summer there with Bob as the soundtrack.
Afrika Bambaataa - The Grandfather of hip hop and electro funk. A god amongst men. To this day if I hear Planet Rock I cant stop myself from body popping, incredibly embarrassing. |

Never heard of the name Rosetta Tharpe but recognised her voice immediately! Everyone probably will. The most surreal thing in the clip I chose was her standing playing electric guitar outside in her coat as if she'd just popped out to the shops!!! Awesome! |

Simon Cowell - like every A&R man but giving gigs to shelfstackers as well as useless stoner rebels in leather jackets. That's redistibution of wealth, which Billy Bragg and Rage Against the Machine are against.
Peter Grant - changed live music payment, with force where required.
Tony Macaulay - the first songwriter to stand up against being ripped off by record companies and publishers. |

Burt Bacharach & Hal David....
Responsible for so many top popular songs over their lengthy career.
Stevie Wonder....
Fifty year career (36 US Billboard Top Twenty Singles)
The Motown Family (Berry Gordy Jr, Smokey Robinson, Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, Eddie Holland)
So much influence on modern day music and many top bands of today.
