It seems classic but long since concluded sitcoms "Roseanne" and "will & Grace" are rising from the proverbial dust for new installments..
Roseanne ended with the revelation her husband (Dan) didn't survive the heart attack he suffered at the end of the 8th season and all episodes of season 9 were basically Roseanne's? short stories written in the writing room Dan had built her to cope with the bereavement

So.. the new series seems effectively a do over of sorts were nothing that happened in the much maligned season 9 counts.. (Dan never died, Jacqui isn't a lesbian, Darlene is still with David , not mark .. likewise Becky and mark) although the Irish actor that played Mark Healey (Glenn Quinn) sadly passed away in 2002 of a drug overdose..
The same with will and grace, for a relaunch to be possible the season finale has to be deprecated .. will and grace are basically estranged for 20 years and don't reconnect as friends until a chance meeting at the college their kids attend puts them back together and re-establishes their friendship..
Should classic sitcoms be left as they are or will you watch the new installments of the above with enthusiasm and interest?

Think they should just leave things be.
Will & Grace feels like it's only just finished!
They'll be rehashing Cagney & Lacey next, and then my blood will boil!! |

Yeah, it's odd - but honestly I like both shows and am secretly pleased the Connors will be revived and given another outing, Roseanne was before my time but watching it recently it struck me how it seemed to capture something authentic no other show within the genre has quite managed to since. The last episode was a disappointing anti climax.. so it'll be interesting to see how they rejig it .
Will and grace .. yeah, it's barely ended - the trajectory it laid out in the final episode will have to be discarded to make it work..
I'd love to see a proper final season of Cybil.. it ended prematurely and on a cliff hanger! although off stage there was no love lost the cast.. they definitely had chemistry.
Perhaps it's better just to leave certain shows in the past untouched rather than risk ruining whatever magic or authenticity they possessed? |
