Watched a very interesting programme about the bed. Beds used to consist of straw on top of straps and every night before settling down the straps had to be tightened so you didnt fall through. Also herbs to repel insects were spread amongst the straw so the bedbugs wouldn't indeed bite. This was going back to the 1500's isn't it marvellous how some expressions still get used today without really knowing the meaning of them.

I remember hearing somewhere that the term honeymoon dates back thousands of years to babylon where the brides father would supply the groom with as much mead as he could drink for a month , mead being made with honey and their calender being lunar based meant this period was known as the honey month hence honeymoon .
