A former News of the World reporter who alleged Andy Coulson "encouraged" him to hack phones has been found dead.

Sean Hoare, who made claims in a New York Times article about the Prime Minister's former communications chief, was discovered at his home in Watford, Hertfordshire, after concerns were raised about his whereabouts.

The death is being treated as "unexplained, but not thought to be suspicious", Hertfordshire police said.

Well who would have thought it?...

In the history of cans of worms this is potentially the biggest since Watergate...

A Makro wholesale size can of worms.

Not worth a mans life. Or are we baying for blood on this one? Eye for an eye - that sort of thing? I know I'm not. Its a very sorry affair and nobody is above punishment but we don't have a death penalty in this country. Just prison.

Those who will bay - the royal 'we' as in those who start shouting for more than is available punishment and will view suicides or breakdowns or deaths from stress as a fitting punishment. Probably sun readers yeah yeah I know that will bring the sun readers out having a go but Im not biting. Just making a comment that prison is all they will get and anyone losing their life over a scandal is too high a price to pay.

Maybe this otherwise healthy youngish man died of natural causes....

But then again that would be the coincidence of all coincidences wouldn't it?.....given the bombshells dropped over the last couple of weeks.

We'll have to see how it turns out after it's investigated.

Same thing with the guy who died on the loo at Glastonbury recently.

He could have had a dodgy ticker. Investigative journalism would be quite a stressful job I'd have thought, so who knows what the guy was suffering from. An otherwise healthy young mate of mine dropped dead a few years ago - seems he had a dodgy ticker too. Nobody knew.

Suicide ACt 1961 - doing it is not a crime, nor is attempt, but aiding and abetting is....

Watergate was a real surprise, this is kinda exposing what lengths we know journalists will go to for "The Scoop".

There is hope that not all prime ministers are cosied up to the media barons. Here's a little snippet about Clement Attlee I just found on BBC.co.uk:

"

Historian and author Richard Heller says Clement Attlee was so removed from the media that he had to be persuaded by his press secretary, Francis Williams, to install a tape machine at Number 10 to monitor breaking news.

Williams only sold the idea to cricket fanatic Attlee on the basis that it would give him access to the latest scores, Heller says.

One day when Attlee was checking the scores he was horrified to notice that the machine was also clattering out political news, the historian adds.

"Francis," Attlee said, "My cricket machine's gone wrong. It's putting out stuff about the government."

Williams replied: "I know, prime minister, I put it there."

"

Gotta love him for that. lol

There was a journo in France who was going round saying he knew stuff about Diana's death. He was found dead in a burned-out white Fiat in a French forest.

I'm just saying.

He was probably found in a Fiat in a french forest and burned because he was in a Fiat in a french forest. They're funny fuckers like that. He'd have been perfectly ok if he had been in a Citroen or Renault.

Isn't speculation and assumption and poor reporting exactly the thing everyone is having a go at thats bad in journalism - yet thats exactly whats happening on this thread? If there wasn't an audience for the crap thats written in publications they wouldnt go to the lengths they go to to get 'news'. Even speculation about speculation feeds the fire.
