During my time on Fab I've had a couple of really nasty (and uncalled for) comments.

Both times this has happened it's been the first message they've sent and when I go to reply or view their profile I've found they've blocked me.

I don't understand why people do it.

Anyone else experienced this?

Yep, usually as a reply to a polite , non offensive, introductory message.

Some people must get a kick out of putting others down.

Easier said than done, but rise above it, after all, if they are like that in a message, what would they be like face to face? I certainly wouldn't find the time to meet them.

How do you report someone when they have blocked You?

Admin says just add the username to the blocklist but can't seem to find a place to do that..

I suspect that there are those who find that fab isn't working for them and when they see people who are having success, they decide to rain on their parade.

Only one really nasty one, I reported it and the profile was removed; whether by her, or by admin i do not know, but it was pretty bad (and no i am not repeating it here).

Other than that i get some now and again suggesting i am too old for fab (but not put quite that nicely).

It's a free site and without filters literally anybody can message anybody.

The comments can only be nasty if they actually know you personally, the chances of that are pretty slim.

Block delete and treat such messages with the contempt they deserve.

It beggars belief how some will attack, insult and accuse either because they downright get a kick out of it, or perhaps because they have decided you deserve it or have done something that they have interpreted or perceived (without actually checking in on your intent) as meriting their abuse - this is more for those who 'take things to PM' to have a bully/go at posters in the forums that they disagree with or when they want to defend another that they feel you disagree with.

The best response to anyone that wants to cast judgement and attack you over PM, is to report/block and move on - it is far sadder an existence that they operate in. Often it is those that accuse others of bullying that are wildly unaware of their own bullying behaviour and positioning.

For those that make derogatory comments based on no interaction with you previously, well it's laughable. And for those that do so based on no interaction with you beyond rigid black and white decision making on what they think you mean, again the lack of emotional maturity and intelligence staggers me. Perception is loaded with our personal experiences and prejudices. Communication is in bridging the gap in between and learning/questioning/clarifying another's meaning and intent before you decide to put intent in their mouth and take on your perceived righteous action to address their wrongdoing. And even then, why take it to PM - a challenge on a thread as a counter to a written statement you disagree with is one thing/for the permanence of not wanting to leave something unchallenged, but to PM at someone a tirade of chastising, or of abuse, and not take the time to explain how you are interpreting it and ask the poster's intent and seek clarification, well that attack's intent is really only to hurt someone. And then you need to take a long look at your motives and at yourself, and perhaps ask yourself some tough questions.

(just an observation)

This!

Simply block OP as others have already said. Some really good advice in this thread.

Also if they follow your posts and try to indirectly communicate with you after on block list please report. That is not allowed in forums.

Happened to me last night. A woman following me then proceeded to create a thread about it... not even funny, but made me laugh out loud.

Never let anyone spoil your fun and time on Fab.

It's interesting you say that for I read on another thread that it isn't actually against the rules to comment on threads or another person's comments on forum if they've blocked you. (I hasten to point out I am not the woman you refer to in your post, as I am sure you would testify!! I would gently suggest though that is it not a bit namey/shamey yourself to make comment about this person like that in your own post? Pot kettle...!!)

this and far worst op by that i mean I personally have had threads started about me by a rather sad individual of coarse said person worded it in a way as to not fall fowl of the mods but still .

oh and they block me long before they started said thread and yes they had never spoken to me privates or ever . its still on here by the way said thread as i don't run to the mods i prefer to leave the hang mans rope up if you get my meaning op .

to answer why people behave in that way in private messages and even in forum posts directed at others its simple op .

people tend to project there own negative feeling about themselves and their life's onto others

they see other people being more successful more happy than they are and it hurts them so they lash out at the person they see as having a better life than then in a effort to make said person feel the same misery as they are feeling .

when you see it like that its very easy to pity people who act as your post and my response out lines op .

i pity then even when I'm taking them to town over there behaviour because its a misery trying to spread misery in my book .

A few times in the chat room I've had single males attack with out provacation, some people just seem to get off on seeing others hurt, embarrassed or belittled by their actions. It's a shame they don't receive an instant ban from fab instead of a ban from the rooms.

I'll never understand the need to be purposely cruel, these people (and I use the term loosely) have no conscience, empathy or regard for anyone but themselves x
