Britain's biggest-ever lottery winners face being hounded out of their own home by hundreds of people begging them for cash.
Colin and Christine Weir are believed to have fled to Spain ...... Thay was on the radio saying it will not change them as people may get there kids houses and cars and do some good for others out of the money ....... I think it could drive them mad never knowing who there true friends are and people only after what thay can get from them ........ and could end up with loads of hangers on ...... its strange but money can be the best thing and lead to all sorts of nasty things too ..... I hope thay can handle what go with the money ..... In 5 or 10 years we will see thay do come across as very normal down to earth people.

£161m Is a hell of a lot of money to go public with. I doubt we would have told anyone.Just waited til the following week.and told family we'd won the saturday lottery.
I told tra that after sorting out the family I'd have to give most of it away. I wouldn't like that sort of money wrapped around me and I'd feel a bit guilty. How much good in the world could you do with £150m?

also i think neighbours might notice if you give up work/ suddenly have 6 new cars parked outside the front/ a jucuzzi in the garden etc
plus living an endless lie to family and friends in order to hide what you could be enjoying it |

Even with a Bank Transfer you would be the talk of the bank you are with...

This was in the Daily Mail and is only partially true as they planned to take their family to Spain while they decided what to do with the money.
Typical D/Mail scaremongering, but, having said that, I'm sure the usual suspects will come crawling out of the woodwork with some sad sob story. |

Fuck that! I want a castle, a big flying castle! I want a fucking island! I want slaves! I want erm erm I want a PL footy team and a lifetime supply of Haribo!!!
It's not enough!
I might invent my own financial amount to cope with my insane greed. I want to win GIGAMILLIONS!!!!
Incidentally I had a cryptic email from The Nash Lottery saying I had a winning Euro Mill ticket but it didn't mention the amount... In the few seconds it took me to click the link from the email and read my winnings I had spent all of the above in my mind and had gone slightly mad in the process.
My winnings? 6 fucking pounds!
I still don't feel quite all there since the incident. |

I'm assuming Camelot would set up an account for them with one of the private banks where confidentiality is usually paramount |

To advise all those queries raised thus far, when someone wins a significant sum on the Lottery, Camelot has a series of measures they put in place to assist the winners.
Firstly, they have arrangements in place to open up an account at a bank of your choice, or at one appointed by them. The money is electronically transferred to that chosen account.
They have a team of financial advisers who will be on hand to assist winners, part of whose job is to steer people away from the freeloaders and those seeking handouts.
After problems encountered in the early days of the Lottery, Camelot place security officers inside the winner's home, to prevent what occurred in the early days. That was when burglars broke into the house whilst the winners were out, to steal everything possible (maybe working on the thought "they can afford to replace it all!").
Also, Camelot intervene to stop the winners being overloaded with approaches from numerous companies trying to sell them their respective services and products. However, the most popular make of car bought by lottery winners is Mercedes, such that Mercedes UK has a Lottery Winners department! |

Yeah, if you go public with something like that then it is kinda letting yourself in for all that kind of thing.
Mind you with £161 million, thats a big house, with lots of security and a Lambo for each foot!
Oh and you get to sleep on a big pile of money surrounded by many beautifull ladies! |

Have to agree I wouldnt stay put to be hounded though - mine would go on a yacht cruising the med and a nice house away from where I live now. I could be evasive and elusive but I don't think my children would want to leave the area and people would be asking them questions if they moved into a big house driving flash cars. I would tell them to say THEY had won the lottery but just a comfortable sum. It would still get out in the end. The thing that annoys me is when people don't spend their lottery win and live life the same - why play it in the first place if you don't want it to change your life? |
