Definitely not shirt and tie. It's far too formal.

I'd say hit the middle ground and go jeans with a short sleeved shirt. T-shirt underneath.

I'd only bother with suit and tie if it's something you've both spoken about it being a turn on, otherwise go with what you feel confident and comfy in. Your username says you're a geek, release that geek

Also; It's how I dress most of the time when I'm not at work or at home, so maybe I'm biased...

Or maybe go for the "Clarkson" look in a pair of smart shoes, jeans, shirt but no tie, and a suit jacket

Smart but casual look, I hate men in suits, I see them every day and so unsexy in my eyes

Love the jeans and shirt look though (but no bloody trainers)

as much as i loveeeeeee and adore lusting over guys in suits.. think a meal might be a bit formal..

still think you could go smart but go for drinks and conversation in a bar.

if that potential meets anything like me on a first social.. shed be nervous trying to to say the wrong things let alone trying not to spill food down her haha..

whack a suit on in the bedroom if she is lucky enough to get you there.

I think a suit would be over the top but a t-shirt underdone. Love a guy in a shirt and decent jeans, converse are cool.

Always smart casual, shirt & trousers or shirt and smart jeans. Can't go wrong with either.
