He does time travel, so he has already left, and will be here for years, and is leaving soon all at the same time
You are too young to remember it but the Tomorrow People's "jaunting belt" is what you need |

It would be great, but in my fantasy opinion, the reality is that the devices would be government controlled for the early years, with high charges imposed. When the technology filters down to devices for personal use, the government have already had the high fee system in place for long enough that they would be heavily taxed on use, so they retain their income. Think cars and road tax, as a comparison.
The devices would have to have a tracking system in place, so just imagine the invasion of privacy there, for officials to have the power to check whenever they suspected terrorism or crime. In today's society, the comparison would be a mobile phone, so it's not too big a step to create powers for new technology, especially when sci-fi programmes show how it can be used. Imagine having a regular conversation in the street and some random strangers appear out of thin air. Sure, we are going to carry on chatting as though nothing has happened. No, we aren't afraid of anything at all, those stun guns are perfectly harmless.
Also, anyone cheating is going to be so paranoid that they might be caught by an unexpected teleportation visit from their partner, that they aren't likely to be successful in picking up anyone for sex. Either that, or a quickie becomes the art of a super fast chat up line, followed by 1 or 2 minutes of fast sex. For some, that might be an extension to their existing timeframe though.
Seriously though, teleportation would be great, especially for medical emergencies or ordering fast food. |

It was meant to be tongue in cheek. Blame the government, its them who are imposing the taxes on teleportation. LOL. |
