Tonight's topic is:

It's either Logan, because it focused on a character driven story.

Or (technically not superhero but a larger than life comic character) Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. Honestly that film is just so well made, the editing and dialogue are all so well thought out to make a funny and thoughtful narrative. I love it every time I watch it!

It would look good on the big screen. Or take the Daleks or Cybermen and pit them against Iron man, they'd have to make them a bit more agile to make it more of a contest. Mix it up a bit.

Yeah Logan was good even though it was a typical monomyth journey. They added alot of artistic flair and terrific character acting to a pretty basic plotline and it really paid off.

You should rewatch, it's so worth it!

Great answer!

Logan was an absolute masterpiece in my opinion. I'm a major movie buff and I couldn't fault it at all!

Scott Pilgrim was rather enjoyable although I haven't seen it in a while

Yeah Logan was good even though it was a typical monomyth journey. They added alot of artistic flair and terrific character acting to a pretty basic plotline and it really paid off.

You should rewatch, it's so worth it!

I loved it, it was so simple but that's what made it so great in my opinion!"

I'm still thinking of you and that gold bikini

Deadpool 2 has got to be amazing, the first one was so fresh and hysterical.

Iron Man needs to get back in the suit for another solo film, not mad on The Avengers stuff, I'll watch them but love Rob Downey in his own vehicles.

& throwing in as it's a nerdy thread (even though I consider myself a geek not a nerd) The new Transformers film better pull it back out of the bag as the last few have slid heavily downwards. Optimus and BumbleBee are awesome. :D

I'm always nervous for sequels of good films to be honest, but I think that Ryan Reynolds will make it brilliant regardless.

I love Iron Man but Iron Man 3 was god awful in my opinion.

When it comes to Transformers - I hate the movies. I much prefer the animated TV show.

Ryan Reynolds had me from the first time I saw him show up in Blade Trinity, he had me rolling with laughter in that film. When I found out he was playing Deadpool, I will admit, I had a man moment occur in my trousers... He just cracks me up.

It's a tough act to follow, agreed, also nervous, but agree again, he has that certain something that no matter what the vehicle, he can carry it well.

Yeah, Iron Man 3 was weak and a bit of hard work, but it had a few moments worth watching it for.

I guess it's that often hit wall for a Third film if they broke the first sequel curse, the third has even more to achieve. (Third Bale Batman.... Oh dear...)

The toons remind me of my childhood, loved the toys, not so much the cartoons. Transformers is very much a your thing or not, and I like the fact they stuck with that rather than initially trying to suck it up and go for the wide audience pitching it as anything other than a film version of the original cartoon/franchise.

Haha! He came up in regards to Blade earlier, and I have to admit he was hilarious despite it being the worst film of the trilogy.

I think I just don't like Gwyneth Paltrow and Iron Man three was very centred around her which infuriated me.

Yeah I would say that Transformers is basically a Marmite complex. It's surprising how many people don't even know that it was a cartoon though!

I'm actually waiting for Wesley to get back into the Black leather jacket and perhaps get a Zimmer frame equipped with Silver stake firing gizmo's and they haul Blade out of retirement, it's surely due a remake? BE good if Reynolds was thrown into that again as that character was insanely fitting for him. (Oddly enough, Blade the series wasn't all that bad, shame it never made it beyond Series 1?)

Ahhh, The Paltrow, divine creature that she is. Yes, not enough featuring of her and her talents and her classy portrayal of Miss Pepper.

I know!!! How could people even my age not remember and then start talking about this new Transformers thing they just watched like it only happened????? Kids and younger people, sure, but late 30's and upwards and it was a total mystery and convinced it was all shiny and fresh and just been invented, heh???

Even my fast eyes and quick mind think they heavily overclocked the action sequences. Very rushed in a lot of places and no need for it either as the effects do not require covering over like they were B Movie effects with the use of blurring them.

He did say that even now he would love to do another Blade movie!

I really don't like her...As someone who has spent their life studying acting, I can spot bad acting when it's there...and she's as bad as they come.

I like my moives to have a plot, and that does exclude a lot of the marvel films. Iron Man 2 and 3 are mediocre, all of the Avengers films are just.... awful, Captain America sequels..you just want to yell that the horse is dead, flogging it will get you nowhere..

It's funny that these should be labelled as "geek" movies - maybe times have changed. Geeks used to be, what was traditionally referred to as the intelligensia, but now it seems not.

There are, of course decent films in that genre. The original "Batman" is awesome, The first "Guardians of the Galaxy" is good, albeit not particulalry challenging, intellectually. The second is shite. "Watchmen" is pretty good too.

I have to disagree with you there on Marvel films. Some of them have a few major plot holes, but they are consistent in having good stories.

They're labelled as nerd not geek.

I love your thinking! Interesting question for you darling...my butt or Scarletts?

Hmm... send me a reminder on snapchat and then il answer? Jokes, of course yours my darling

Is it bad that I was expecting you to say exactly that?

I'm totally wearing shiny black leggings as well..."

Don't tease, show me! And just shows how well you know me

"I miss you too!

I want to go back in time to the summers we used to have.

Hmm how about just catch up on me

Haha! That was a terrible euphemism wasn't it?

That would be amazing! We need a serious catch up *ahem*

Get your butt up here now! My Ninetales plush can deal with being on the chair as opposed to being in my bed, I'm sure

It's taking up my place in the bed, I'd be there in a shot if I could, you know that! Soon though!

I do, I just wish it was right now.

So you're Bucky, who do you want me to be?

As do I!

Do you need to ask? Get that fine ass of yours into a black widow outfit

I should have known that was coming - only problem, my Russian accent isn't the best - I still fail at it.

Haha!!! Or maybe you will have to wait to see them in person? I'm sure I've worn these around you before.

You used to hate that I can read you like a book.

For me its:

Marvel: Captain America Winter Soldier, closely followed by the first Guardians of the Galaxy

DC: Dark Knight & Man of Steel

A lot of people have been choosing Winter Soldier this evening.

I agree with all choices other than Man of Steel but I think that's because I compared it to the comic books too much (I ranted about it for three hours after the movie finished)

For me, MoS is one of the best. Personally I don't get why people dislike it? The way it brings Superman into the "modern" world is great. I personally love Clark/Kal's personal struggle where on one hand he has a dad that wants him to inspire the people of earth and another that doesn't think the they are ready for someone with Clarks powers, and he has to find the balance between those 2 which ends up being Superman.

Because it was so wrong compared to the comics! I mean the biggest mistake is that he killed someone!

Plus on top of that the script was actually terrible. Lois Lane is not supposed to be a damsel but she was. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams are amazing actors but even they couldn't redeem it. Henry Cavill actually seemed more like he was playing Spock as opposed to Superman, it was terrible! And don't even get me started with the origin of his cape and everything

I agree with the Lois Lane thing. The character they have in these new movies isn't great at all and she does very little for the story (especially in BvS where she figures out Lexs plans half an hour after the audience does lol)

In regards to the "Superman killing" and "it's not Superman" thing, this is Superman at the start of his "career", this is his 1st day as Superman and isn't yet the Superman we know and love. I had no problem with him killing Zod considering Zod was about to kill innocent people. You see how emotionally distraught Superman is about having to kill the only other living Kryptonian.

Read any of the comics and he never kills anyone even at the beginning of his career as Superman as he makes a point to only ever protect and not kill. That's why fans were disappointed.

It was written absolutely terribly and there was literally no way that the actors could redeem the messed up script because they also had terrible direction

Tbh alot of comic book movies are very different to their comic counterparts.

Imo, considering how much hate Snyder and DC have been getting lately, I think MoS is an amazing film.

I personally think that the "reborn" Superman we see in Justice League is going to be more like the Superman we all know and love

Granted they are, but to change a characters entire premise and nature? That is something else! I could forgive the fact that his cape wasn't formed of his baby blanket, but him killing someone? Nope.

I don't think so. With how boring these scripts have been from DC, I think it will be another one to toss into the heap of other adaptation failures. They can't seem to find the balance to adapt properly let alone bring in a balance of action, thick story and humour like Marvel does.

Which is so frustrating as I really want DC to succeed.

If there's one thing I think we can agree on: the scores have been phenomenal

We all do, but I believe it will be a while until there will be a renaissance to be honest.

The way I look at it, it's like Disney. They have peaks of being absolutely amazing and releasing perfect unfaultable films, and then they crash for a few years and release garbage movies that nobody really cares for.

It is a perfectly normal thing to happen with major companies. Marvel haven't always been perfect - did you see the original Iron Man and Hulk films in the 60's/70's? Absolutely laughable, even then.

Right now they are going through a terrible period because they are thinking quantity as opposed to quality. They see Marvel spewing out blockbuster hits and they're trying to compete and failing because they don't have the writers and directors that Marvel have access to.

DC have two teams working on films at the same time - Marvel have at least ten teams working on different films at the same time. In terms of that, it's down to money

"Lets put Kick Ass on this thread as well then "

Kick Ass is proof that Nic Cage is the one true god, I plan to get the picture of him framed and put on my wall at some point.

I love the MCU and think it was incredibly cast but my favourite superhero is V. Alan Moore may not have liked the adaptation, but I loved it. And we could use someone like him now

Bham

This is so tough.

I liked the winter soldier. Deadpool was great.

Also loved Logan.

But then I'll always have a soft spot for Xmen and x2.

I've pretty much failed at this thread sorry, I can't pick.
