It's a great film but far too depressing, certainly deserving of all its accolades and acclaim though.
The first place I recall seeing it was in an RE class at school around the age of 14, of all places. Can't recall the theme of the particular lesson or how the film tied in with it - but a powerful film that doesn't fade from the psyche, for sure. |

At the time Hank's character contracted the virus little was known about it's route of transmission or how to mitigate and reduce risks.
Fortunately now information is ubiquitous so those choosing to engage in high risk encounters at least can make an informed decision based on risks .
Without meaning to sound judgemental , I doubt anyone would be a staunch proponent of casual unsafe sex considering the risks, even if hiv is now technically considered a chronic illness that can be managed with meds and lifestyle changes , it's something best avoided . Hopefully the day of a effective and economical "cure" is approaching. |
