I was happily walking home, minding my own business... and then there was a massive crunch underfoot, I turned back to realise that I had just smashed a snail's shell. It's something which always makes me feel terribly guilty |

"Oh no! I hate that, there always used to be loads around my parents house. I feel bad! "
I was kinda glad to see that the pretty one who's currently sliming on the outside door frame of my front door wasn't my victim though |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
"You've created a homeless slug.
This is going to be the most naive question but can they live if you crack their shell? "
They can if it's not a major crack. If it's broken down to the snail body, probably not. |

You're not as terrible as me because I pick up all the ones I can find in my garden on a trowel and launch them over the back fence onto the path behind my house .... I figure that the crunch of their shells as they hit the concrete saves a bit of work for a blackbird or a thrush |

But all the lettuces of the world will sleep tonight safe in the knowledge that another of their murderous enemy has died & they will be singing your name as the sun breaks the horizon in the morning!
But then again maybe not

I am worse than you; I pick them up and throw them in our neighbour's garden
