maybe we should start a test on age by asking where were you when you found out ......
a) jacko had died ?
b) princess di been killed ?
c) pope had been shot ?
d) elvis had died ?

a b and d i remember vividly. Cant remember about the pope, also i cant remember a thing about princess grace of monaco.
Can we add when john lennon was assassinated to the list

The one I remember the most is Diana not because of how many people were genuinely touched by it, but moreso by just how quickly my mrs got outta bed on a Sunday morning !

Princess diana
I had been out on the town and come home with a few friends. We watched a video and when it had finished it automatically went to the television as we where watching a flash came at the bottom of the screen to say princess diana had been hurt in a car crash (this is about 3am in the morning) the next thing that comes up is that princess diana has broken her arm in a car crash, then she was unconscious and then finally dead. The news reader could hardly get the words out of his mouth.
To this day i have never worked out why they said she had broken her arm |

was on a thursday when i heard it, was just getting ready for the Annual Camping trip to Wales
b) princess di been killed ?
in the local Papershop where i was working when it was printed across the papers
c) pope had been shot ?
was he shot?
d) elvis had died ?
before my time
e) jfk had been assassinated ?

911 i had popped into the pub in the morning to see my friend at work it came on the news that two planes had crashed. By the time i got to the next shop the extent of the disaster was just unravelling |

The first attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II took place on Wednesday, May 13, 1981, in St. Peter's Square at Vatican City. The Pope was shot and critically wounded by Mehmet Ali Agca, a trained sniper from Turkey, while he was entering the square. The Pope was struck 4 times, and suffered severe blood loss. Agca was apprehended immediately, and later sentenced to life in prison by an Italian court. The Pope later forgave Agca for the assassination attempt.

the last 3 i don't remember....
the 1st two...
jacko.. i was just about to go to bed when sky news started reporting it... then i went onto my american university website (they are normally quicker than bloody twitter) just to check if they had heard anything...
it was very strange when a person in england is the first person to break it to americans....
diana... well i had gotten up at 7am on that sunday, i was opening up the carphone warehouse in leicester city centre that morning... i wasn't sure i had heard it right because the newscaster on the radio was so sombre...
so i rang up my manager at 9.30 to see if i should still open the shop... and he rang up the area manager..
it was so eerie that day, the city centre was basically deserted all day, and a grand total of 1 person came into the shop all day... |

I was at work, 1st year training as a television repair man - heard the dreadful news on the TV "Elvis Presley is dead"

Can only remember where i was when elvis died.
Was in the T.A and had just got home after a nights drill and booze up. Heard the news and was all shook up. |

Di well i woke up to it and was shocked.
Pope i don’t really recall but i do Regan getting popped
Elvis......well he isn’t dead is he.
JFK was before my time.
