Anyone remember watching a moment in any cartoon that made you think how dark it was in terms of being ominous, creepy, unsettling or even scary?
For me it has to be the episode Stimpy's Fan Club from Ren and Stimpy when Ren has completely lost it after reading so many of Stimpy's letters from his fans and contemplates murdering Stimpy in his sleep by breaking his neck. I know that there are many other episodes that have pretty dark moments but this one in Stimpy's Fan Club is by far the most darkest |

Steven Universe has had a fair few dark moments. Anything with the gem shards is pretty twisted.
My favourite "dark" episode is Steven and the Stevens. The song at the end which finishes with the line "I learnt to stay true to myself, by watching myself die". Just perfect ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

"Does Disney count? I rewatched Hunchback Of Notre Dame the other day "
Yeah Disney does count. Hunchback does have some dark moments especially when Frollo sings the song Hellfire. |

"Watership Down scared the crap out of me as a kid! "
Yeah. That movie sure is dark throughout. I remember seeing a video on YouTube featuring all the dark and messed up moments from this film and it had the theme tune from The Omen playing in the background add well. |

The Animals of Farthing Wood had some dark times. I remember an Adder getting murdered or something.
Watership down and the plague dogs destroyed me and still do. The books were the same.
The Redwell Abbey books were my thing back in the day but they did not have the dark moments transferred as much to the cartoon. |

Most recently where i have felt unsettled watching a cartoon has to be during an episode of Rick and Morty. An eccentric character living life to the full attempts to commit suicide. It really made me sit back and just take a moment.

"I always felt that Pinocchio was creepy and had its dark moments.
Completely the children stealer was a paedo for sure! Creeped me out..
Probably worked for the BBC back then "
What is scary though in Pinocchio is that all the kids that already turned into donkeys are still being shipped in crates to work in the salt mines |

"In the CGI show ReBoot, the hero Bob gets trapped in the Web by the villain at the end of Season 3.
Unfortunately ITV didn't buy Season 4, so in the UK he is still lost in the Web "
I remember watching that show when CITV used to be on ITV. I sure miss those days lol |

So do I, although in recent times Star Wars Rebels has captured some of that excitement of eagerly waiting for the next episode of a quality CGI show. |

Bit more recent but Avatar the Legend of Aang and the Legend of Korra both dealt with dark issues.
Cultural genocide, depression, loss, undertones of some characters contemplating suicide. |

The 2012 TMNT CGI is pretty awesome too. I have to watch it myself as it gives my monsters the jibblies. |

Legend of Korra is so bleak and yet uplifting. I loved the ending too. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

The death of Bambi's mother is surely the most traumatic event in any small child's carton viewing life,,,,
I mean watching a hunter kill Bambi’s mother without explanation the Hunter Would probably chop her head off and mount it on a wall after disembowelling the poor creature leaving its steaming entrails to be feasted on by rodents before dragging away the remaining carcass which will then be cooked and force fed to little children just like them…..
I rest my case ![](/icons/s/2/halo.gif) |

"The episode of Futurama where Fry's dog is waiting for him
That gets me every time!"
Thing is, that took place in 1999. And Seymore lived till the ripe old age of 15. He's been dead in real life for years.
... If it takes forever.. I will wait for you ![](/icons/s/2/crying.gif) |
