In my experience, it's the children's toy industry that is propping up the battery industry.
I'm sure kids toys are designed to consume electricity at a rapid rate.
Pretty sure anyone with children will agree that the amount of batteries they've gotten through since becoming parents has increased rapidly

A thousand times this! I've taken to modding most of the toys that are bought for our monsters (we don't buy battery toys). A couple have been rigged to run from the mains, others have had extraneous light or sound elements removed.
Even so, more batteries than you could ever imagine. |
