I knew I would have to get my finger out and nurture my much neglected allotment after being away for several weeks but I was frankly shocked that my fellow gardeners had completely ignored my plot and have let a lot of it run to seed or dry out - which means fewer crops.
I know I don't give to receive but I have lost count of the number of times I have helped out my green fingered friends with all sorts of things when they were indisposed so I feel hurt.
Nailed to my shed this morning was a note asking if I would be doing the harvest BBQ as I didnt seem to have started on the 'kitty' yet.
I just collected my seedy cabbages and other crap and started a very damp slow burning fire in response... ok it was petty - I'll of course do the BBQ but it was nice to leave a stingy eye, stinky fire in my wake as I trotted off home.

OOPs... the question!! Do you do protesty revenge or do you fly off handle and say you're hurt or none of the above!! How do you react to thoughtlessness? |

i have learnt not to rely on others sharing the same principples etc as me. i am a very helpful lovely person but it is often not returned to me, even by my own family sometimes lol
i would probably make some very audible comments about how i thought allotment keepers were a helpful supportive community etc but it wouldnt stop me from doing what i wuld normally do and i would still go about and water their plots etc
i would also condisder how intergrated i was to the allotment community, do i chat to my neighbours etc as that can make such a difference in making people want to help others |

We always ask people to keep an eye on our plot if we're going away, rather than just hope that they will do so. It's not that we think people there have no community spirit but that like us can be so wrapped up in looking after their plot (especially at this time of year)that they don't notice other peoples.

I'm the 'youngster' in the group which also translates to 'go get me perscription hinny if yer owah the toon' 'mek us a cuppa pet' 'let the lad in with the feed yer legs are yunnga' (gate half a mile away!!!)

Well my next door neighbour watered the garden down home and cut my lawnbut I think the allotmenteers didn't realise how long I was gone! Bless them. |

They do sound a set of miserable self-serving old duffers. Not that I'm hateful towards people in general or anything.
Maybe cock up their prize plants with a dose of Round Up or some similar dirty tricks tactic.
I don't know what it is but that generation love telling people about the community spirit that got us through against "the Jerries" and yet from what I see they are a self-serving bunch.
