... then that's it from me. I read yet another article in the Express yesterday on the dangers of eating a diet thats too low in calories and fat that it will cause serious health problems in later life including alzheimers and cancers. It's getting ridiculous. Isn't it time these conflicting studies by 'a group of scientists' admit its not all about lifestyle but your pre-destined lifeSPAN that determines how your particular cookie is gonna crumble. We know what genes we inherited thank you very much. Some people can flaunt every health rule in the book and live to a ripe old age yet those following the guidelines seem to get all kinds of ills.
I wish someone would publish an article saying - you can stand down now we don't really know what makes you live longer and healthier and then we can just accept we have a limited time on earth and the best thing for our health is to stop reading articles on prolonging your life by doing x, y and z? After all we will only be hanging around this mortal coil as octogenarians without a state pension and no retirement home anyway according to another set of scaremongers!! ![](/icons/s/razz.gif) |

The thing you have to realise is that these researchers operate on a grant, subsidy or sponsorship from often conflicting sources. They are paid to find 'results' that promote a particular policy, product or company.
I take them all with a pinch of salt - which is bad for me I know, cos someone said so. ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Yeah this one was a study by Seven Seas vitamins and mineral people. We're getting too worldly wise now I think to take much note. I wonder what they'll fill the column inches with next? |

"welcome back x"
Thank you so much nice to see some old faces - not that in the short space I have been away I expected any major changes but I'll wait and see for the jaw droppers to be relayed when I settle back in xxx

I know people that have smoked all their lives, never exercised and ate all the wrong foods but have lived well into their 80's. Also know a bloke who didn't smoke, drank very little, walked 5 miles a day with his dog and keeled over from a heart attack.
At the end of the day live life to the best of your ability and die happy however old you are
Amen ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I agree in part with what your saying and if we read every bloody bit of evidence going we would probley all just live on a celery stick. But dieatry change can add to your life span, it can also help or cure certain health issues.
Im not one for different studies on this or different studies on that depending what day of the week it is. But in general we are more aware of things that are bad for us than we where 50 years ago |

Welcome back my friend .....
Well I don't drink or smoke so I get brownie points there, that can balance out the damage caused by eating too much fat ie, chocolate. |

".I read yet another article in the Express yesterday"
Not to be snobbish (well, a bit) but that's probably the problem right there! The Express and the Mail specialise in these stories of things that cure or cause cancer. It's usually a distortion of what the studies actually say. |

Every publication you pick up has sensationalist headlines that barely support the article - womens mags are gutter press now. |

Totally agree. Its when the article claims to be something we didn't already know ie starvation is bad for you! |

Must admit I believe very little that says you should eat this, not eat that as they change their minds month by month. Won't find me eating probiotic yoghurt as I just think it's a marketing and sales gimmick, nothing more ![](/icons/s/confused.gif) |

Aww thank you Saucy and Kitten xx nice to see you both xxx
This is my point how can they tell if your lifespan is increased by taking anyones lifestyle advice? You go when you go and there are no what ifs in the majority of cases. I can just see the obituaries now. Jecherche Newcastle upon Tyne sadly passed away 2057. Will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends and especially all of us down at the organic foodshop. However had she taken the kelp orally Im sure she would have lasted a few more years..... |

Its true if you don't get enough carbs your body will break down your muscles and internal organs as well.
I think what they are getting at is to have a balanced diet, lots of fresh fruit and veg but keep fats and cholesterol intakes down. You might still not live to a ripe old age but you will feel healthier for the time you are here. |

Told you it was a minefield. Thats what they used to say now theyre saying its overkill on the veg at the expense of carbs, so not as many greens to fill you and the five a day is giving the wrong message! Also you must not cut down on fats as these are vital for nerve health. So many conflicting opinions eh? |

The saying "a little bit of everything does you good" is pretty accurate. I tend to eat most things but if i have lots of carbs i burn them off in the gym. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |
