Just had my renewal notice, an increase of nearly 60% on the same car, no claims, speeding points or change of details etc during the year!

How do they justify it?!

ours went from 400 to 900 but i had a bump in it just 7 months after passing my test so expected it but from hearing just how much yours and others have jumped up this year looks like the bump related increase wouldn't be as much as i thought it was it would of jumped up quite a chunk anyhoo

Go to martin lewis's site and look up alternative job descriptions for what you do. It can help. Also the excess you pay. Up your excess by £100 and it can cut £100 off your premium so if you do a year no bump you are quids in.

The increases are mainly due to fraudulent claims ,,, i know at least 4 folk who have submitted such claims in the last 12 months

if the numbers in the car are not excessive the companies just pay out ,, ,, one guy i know was involved in a " crash" with 4 in one car and 3 in the other ,, the insurance company sent in an ivestigator and the claim which was close to 50k collapsed ,,

Most insurance companies know people are lazy and wont shop around for a cheaper quote.. thus try their chances with the same or higher quote for the next year.

If yo ring around and find a cheaper quote, they can miraculously quote you cheaper

Funny isnt it?!

I have kept my raises low or even bettered the previous years quote by getting on the phone and haggling you would be surprised how much you can save. Some of the smaller brokers are a great deal cheaper than the big companies. Getting a quote off something like Go Compare or Compare the Market then ringing the cheapest company direct works, you cut out the premium these sites load on the quote. I insure 3 cars and 4 bikes and find that a couple of hours on the phone and a couple of £ on the phone bill saves me loads

We live in a compensation culture so everyone is looking to claim for whiplash etc when there is none. Then there is the fraudulent crashes. Anyone see Panorama last night. Problem is people think it's ok to put in fake claims because everyone else is doing it and damn hard to prove. But at the end of the days only so much gets paid in premium compared to how much gets paid out. If more gets paid out than gets paid in the prices go up. It not science it economics.

I switched from more than to swift cover this year and dropped from £40 a month to £25 wish I had done it sooner never like the comparison sites as the cheapest quotes always seems to have the wrong excess or miss off no claims protection etc

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack!

Until this year I`ve been with Tesco. 9 years of insuring firstly a `82 Range Rover then my current `94 Discovery and each time the premium has been between £180 and £220 with no points of claims. I`m currently 54 and I`ve been happy enough with this, until this year when they wanted £330 a jump of 1/3! Go Compare and Saga are my friends now and I`m paying £210 this year!

Worst one we had was a quote of £950 .... the year before it was £350. Only difference was a no fault claim. Rang up another broker and got better cover from the same underwriter for £250. Last year it went down to £210

they can justify it by the probable increase in cases of whiplash for the slightest knock.......
