All time it's Fitzcarraldo. Particularly with hindsight of knowing how truly bonkers the filming of it was.
Recently, Victoria. An astonishing film, and all shot in one continuous take! |

There and to the left a bit |
If I had to pick just one...then Shawshank would get another mention
There are so many others that I can and have watched over and over ranging from the sheer escapism of The Italian Job, to historical dramas like Zulu or Gladiator...or action movies like Die Hard, Under Siege, Dirty Harry's or Terminators 1 & 2...that's without even mentioning The Green Mile, Silence Of The Lambs, Schindlers List or the original Star Wars trilogy
....but for sheer quality Shawshank would get my vote every time |

Not many people agree with that unfortunately. They all go for Two Towers because of the Battle of Helms Deep. Little do they realise that ROTK is amazing as it can easily act as a stand alone movie as well as the conclusion of the trilogy. |

Shut up, so am I!!!
I have Tengwar tattooed on my wrist.
Tolkien said himself that Sam is the hero whereas Frodo is merely the protagonist. Sam begins his journey because of a promise and it ended it with love. He knew that he was going to die and still pushed himself to succeed in his love for his land through literally carrying the biggest burden there is.
By the way, how gutted are you about Tom Bombadil not making it to screen? |

To be fair, although Tolkien is an instant classic for redefining modern fantasy, he is still considered to be contemporary. |

All excellent films!! Se7en was pretty gruesome for its time considering it was presented as a thriller rather than a horror, even though most of the horror element was actually left to your own imagination...
The Bone Collector was somewhat similar in that way... |

Man On Fire - best film in the world ever
Blackhawk down - because it was a true story (the book was so much better though)
Funniest scene in a film has got to be in Bridesmaids, where Melissa McCarthy was talking about falling off the ship and was 'communicating' with a dolphin. Laughed so much I forgot to breathe!
8 Below - because I love huskies, and it makes me cry
John Wick - 'cos he's the bloke the bogey man is scared of |

Point Break (the only true point break, not that shit reboot)
Man on Fire, don't piss Denzel off.
Inception, blows my mind.
TopGun, always wanted to be a pilot.
In Bruges, darkly comical.
Wolf of Wall Street, who wouldn't wanna be that rich? Oh and Margot Robbie
Many, many more but I'd be here all day listing them.

I can't possibly narrow it down to one film. All I can say is that there are certain films that when I first saw they had a massive impact on me, even if since then my tastes have changed.
Star Wars
Bladerunner
The Dark Crystals
Heat
The Thin Red Line
Master and Commander
Drive |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) | |
Unlike almost everyone else I've never seen the Shawshank Redemption ....
The film that really 'got' under my skin was 'Life Is Beautiful'. Maybe you have to be a parent to properly appreciate the premise but it's amazing.
Other favourites:
LOTR trilogy
From Dusk Till Dawn
Gladiator
Inter_iew With the Vampire
Fight Club
Moulin Rouge
Leon
Pulp Fiction

"Pulp Fiction or Life of Brian. Every scene in each film is a classic in its own right. Totally diverse films I know, but nothing wrong with diversity
I adore pulp fiction

Ooh. My top film(s) depending on menstrual cycle is...
The Departed (vengeful and angry)
The Notebook/ My Sisters Keeper (crying and irrational)
Planet of the Apes (has a crush on a chimpanzee which is weird- Caesar is more human than us)
Lord of the Rings (nonchalant - accept your geekiness)
The Colour Purple/ Gone with the Wind (I will survive)

The Grey (with Liam Neeson)
Maybe a bit of a far out suggestion - but I think it was a phenomenal film; so tense, so dramatic...
